Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People (中華智慧知人學)–Lecture 6

Minda and I attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) course named “Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People” (中華智慧知人學) Lecture 6 (the last lecture) on 14^th Jun 2025. It focused on Physiognomy (面相學). Before the meeting, we took a photo with Mr. Andy Law. 

In the beginning, Prof. Pang briefed some background of Physiognomy (面相學) (e.g. 十二宮位與五嶽三停)

Twelve zones (十二宮位) represented Life、Wealth、Brothers、House、Male and Female、Servants、Wife、Illness、Migration、Official、Fortune、Parents and Officials (命宮、財帛宮、兄弟宮、田宅宮、男女宮、奴僕宮、妻妾宮、疾厄宮、遷移宮、官祿宮、福德宮、父母宮).

For example, Wealth should observe the nose position and appearance. 

Five Mountain (五嶽) are represented by five location of our face. And three layers are separated our face from up, middle and low.

The face example demonstrated the upper location, middle location and lower location. They represented different meanings.

Luck chart for the year (流年運氣圖) showed in our face that different locations represented different age. 

After that Prof. Pang discussed how to employ Physiognomy (面相學) in the management of business.

The classification based on face are separated into four types and they are authorization, position, character's ability and desire.

The previous government secretary was employed as example that showed characteristics of a “thinker”. 

After a break, Prof. Pang started the second part of lecture named “Understanding human nature and interpersonal relationships using the eight-character numerology” (用八字命理了解人性與人際關係)

Using Five Elements (金木水火土) model, it could represent different personal characteristics.

Then Prof. Pang reviewed the eight-character numerology (八字命理) to discern the Five Elements of others.

He explained how to read the four columns.

And then he demonstrated different characteristics under different element.

For instance, people belong to “Fire”, the relationship between “Fire” people and “Water” people is very difficult.

The summary of comparison table was discussed.

Heavenly Stems (天干) combination and conflict (合與沖) were discussed too.

Finally, Prof. Pang took a group photo with all the students present.

After the class, we had lunch together with Prof. Pang.
