Advanced Class III for I Ching (易經高班III)–Lecture 6

Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class III for I Ching (易經高班 III) the last lecture was held on 14^th Sep 2024. Since venues were full booked in this time, I arranged the lecture and lunch in CityU Faculty Lounge again.  Minda and I met So Easy early in CityU.

Then we had breakfast in student canteen.

When it was time to gather, Minda registered the I Ching classmates, and then I took them to City University.

Before that we took a photo in front of CityU for memory.

In the Faculty Lounge, Prof. Pang reviewed the “Life Lessons” (人生寶訓) and briefed that “One Fate, Two Luck, Three Feng Shui, Four Accumulation of Yin Virtue, Five Learning, Six Reputation, Seven Appearance, Eight Worship God, Nine Make Noble friends and Ten Keep Health” (一命二運三風水四積陰德五讀書; 六名七相八敬神九交貴人十養生.)

And then Prof. Pang taught the Reasoning Logic of Eight Characters for Destiny (八字命理的推理邏輯).

Two tables included Yin-Yang, Five Elements and Directions of the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (天幹地支的陰陽五行與方向), as well as, the conditions of combination and transformation of Heavenly Stems (天干合化); and the Earthly Branches’ (地支) punishment,0 conflict, combination, transformation, harm (刑 、 冲 、 合 、 化 、 害) were discussed.

After that Prof. Pang discussed the element of life that involved Good Time, Place and People (天時 、 地利 、 人和).

Macroscopic of Eight Characters for Destiny was explained using Good Time, Place and People, Year, Month, Day and Hour, as well as, Ten Gods (十神).

Reasoning Logic of Eight Characters for Destiny could provide fundamental information.

And then Prof. Pang demonstrated how to use Perpetual Calendar (萬年曆). 

12 message hexagrams (12消息掛) were reviewed.

Finally, Prof. Pang demonstrated how to interpret the Eight Characters for Destiny and Life Destiny Table (八字的命盤).

During the discussion, Prof. Pang invited Kinsen (our class leader-班長) to share his experience. One day, Kinsen and Prof. Pang visited Prof. Pang's friends and wanted to visit the great garden. But it was a heavy rain. He used Xiao Liuren (小六壬) to predict whether it would rain in an hour. He got good result and then verified that an hour later the rain stopped for 10 minutes. So that they visited the garden.

Afterwards, we thanked Karen and Patrick for preparing a summary video of the Chengdu graduation trip on June 16, 2024.

The last activity, I shared my student on Revolution hexagram (革卦) and tripod hexagram (鼎卦) and their change in different situations. 

The two hexagrams illustrate how difficult change and innovation are.

Lastly, I employed Prof. Pang’s definition of wisdom as conclusion.

At the end, we took a group photo for memory inside the venue. We are all looking forward to Prof. Pang's next course.

When we left, we took a photo with the lanterns (燈籠) because the Mid-Autumn Festival was coming soon.

HKSQ AGM Seminar on Reform the Past and Innovate - “New Quality Productive Force” (革故鼎新 -「新質生產力」)

HKSQ Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2023/2024 was held on 13^th Sep 2024 both online and onsite in TQM office. I invited as guest speaker to give AGM Seminar named “ Reform the Past and Innovate - "New Quality Productive Force" (革故鼎新 - 「新質生產力」). In the beginning, I introduced the content of the topic. 

Firstly, Qian hexagram (乾卦) in I Ching was quoted to explain the product / people / organization life cycle.

Then I briefed the development of quality philosophies and innovation tools form first industrial revolution to fourth industrial revolution. In 2024, China firstly announced “New Quality Productive Force” indicating that we entered the fourth industrial revolution era. 

And then I explained the contents of “New Quality Productive Force”. I also used ChatGPT-4o to find the definition of "Productive" and it showed the source from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) but no ISO standard definition. In OECD iLibrary, "Productivity" is commonly defined as a ratio between the volume of output and the volume of inputs. In other words, it measures how efficiently production inputs, such as labor and capital, are being used in an economy to produce a given level of output.

After that Innovation description by using Revolution hexagram (革卦) and tripod hexagram (鼎卦) were employed and it could be represented “Change” and “Innovation”, respectively.

Each hexagram has six Yao (爻) indicated different stage. Both hexagrams were briefed their steps.

Finally, I employed Huawei digital transformation (DT) as example to fit I Ching wisdom through change and innovation management. One of most important factors is “Top Management Commitment” and then I showed the Governance structure for Change Management in Huawei.

Their result of DT achieved ROADS experience including real-time, on-demand, all-online, DIY and Social.

Lastly, I briefed the “Extenics” and extension innovation method and concluded that I Ching wisdom is able to integrate into quality management and got a great result.

Apart from Huawei digital transformation (DT), I added two most recently examples to demonstrate “New Quality Productive Force” and they were “Black Myth: Wukong” and “The tri-fold Huawei Mate XT”.

After AGM Seminar, Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) chaired the AGM and reported all activities in the past year. 

Our Hon. Treasurer Dr. Mandict Wong reported HKSQ financial status. Our finance is very health and breakeven in last year. 

Finally, our Hon. Secretary Ms. Angela Wong reported the amendment of HKSQ M&A. Lastly, all participants agreed all new exco members, chairman report and financial report, as well as, M&A amendment.

At the end, HKSQ exco members, members and guests had dinner together.
