I was honor
to be invited by Prof. C.H. Cheng (Associate Dean of Students, Lee Woo Sing
College & Associate Professor - Department of Systems Engineering &
Engineering Management, CUHK) again to be speaker for the the class
ENGG2600 Technology, Society and Engineering Practice" on 7 October 9,
2016 2016. This
time we gave the talk early (not in Jan 2017) because we would like to promote
HKSQ Student Project Competition. Before the talk, I took a group photo with Prof. Cheng and all
students.
My
presentation is separated into three parts.
The first part was “ISO Management System at HKSTP”, and the second part
was “Introduction of Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ)” and the last part
explained “Innovation Management”.
Firstly,
I briefed HKSTP Integrated Management System and some background information of
Science Park such as number of employees and companies, etc.
Then I
mentioned our three platforms included “Robotics”, “Healthy Ageing” and “Smart
Cities”. Moreover, Reindustrialization
was also discussed. I believed the
student selected the Systems Engineering and Engineering Management would be
fit the future need.
And then
I introduced the background of Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) and
different certification schemes. Then I
also introduced HKSQ membership and company-based student project competition. (Remark: CUHK team was won the 1st runner up).
Finally, my topic named “Innovation Management – Trend, Tools and
Standards in Quality Perspective” which was presented in the the 7th Forum for
Council of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management Department Heads
(CIEDH2016) and the 5th Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers Asian
Conference (IISEAsia2016) on 22nd July 2016.
I explained the idea between Quality and Innovation firstly. I observed there had overlapped area which
most related improvement. Since we were
quality professional, we focused on Quality Innovation that Innovation is
subset in Quality field.
Then I briefed the history of Quality and Innovation. I also briefed the different famous
Innovation Tools which separated into human-centered innovation including
Brainstorming (1939), Creatology (1951), NM Method (1970), Six Thinking Hats
(1985), Thinkertoys (1991) and Design Thinking (1987); as well as, systematic
engineering innovation including TRIZ (1956), USIT (1995) and Extenics
(1983).
Finally,
I proposed the Quality and Innovation Management System Model which was combined the ISO
9001:2015 and CEN/TS 16555-1 to -7.
