HKSQ Student Project Competition 2018 – Defond Plant Visit

The HKSQ Company Based Student Project Competition aims to offer an opportunity for students to work on an actual industrial case and propose resolution annually. This event allows university students to gain experience of resolving an industrial problem.  The competition included three sessions.  The first session is problems briefing and selection those problems are designed and would be explained by Sponsor Company.   Defond Electrical Industries Ltd. is the sponsor company in 2018.  The second session is factory visit and the last session is presentation of suggested solutions by different universities students.  

The second session - plant visit was held on 3^rd Feb 2018.  Mr. Ricky Suen (Treasurer, HKSQ), Mr. Caleb Chin (Member, HKSQ), Mr. Ian Chin (Member, HKSQ), Ms. Minda Chiang (Former Hon. Secretary, HKSQ) and I (Chairman, HKSQ) led the visit.  We gathered in gate 11 of Futian Port at 8:30pm. Mr. Ian Chin helped for registration and Mr. Caleb Chin contacted the bus driver.

After registration, Mr. Caleb Chin led us to go to the travel bus. 

Students got on the bus on time.  

In the beginning, Mr. Michael Chan (Engineering Manager, Defond) introduced todays leaders in the plant and briefed the schedule of plant visit.

Mr. Johnny Wong (Quality Director, Defond) gave a welcome speaker and briefed their quality strategy as well as introduced the purpose of their Lean Academy establishment.

Then Mr. So (Person-in-charge of Defond Lean Academy) briefed the activities of Lean Academy through a video and then visited the facilities of Academy.

The history of lean and Defond Lean Academy was introduced.

Some safety designs for work place were demonstrated.

Lead manufacturing operation lines were also demonstrated.

After that we separated into four groups.  I lead the CUHK student for topic 3.  We visited the CCTV monitoring design room.  We took a photo with Defond representatives.

They demonstrated different CCTV camera and testing facilities to students.

After that morning visit, we had lunch in Manager Restaurant.

After lunch, we visited the different production lines and observed the operation on CCTV inspection.

After visited the plant, we came back to Defond Lean Academy and I represented HKSQ to appreciate Defond support.

Lastly, I presented HKSQ flag to Mr. Johnny Wong (Quality Director, Defond).

We took a group photo in the classroom.

At the end, we took a group photo in front of the Defond Lean Academy for memory before leave.

Students were very happy after the visit and study in this trip.
