It was our honor to invite Dr. Michael YH Li to be our guest speaker for the seminar entitled "Introduction to TRIZ" on 3 December 2011. In the beginning, I briefed Dr. Michael YH Li's background to HKSQ member. Dr. Li has 30 years experience in manufacturing industry. He is currently a managing director of Top Talent Consultants Ltd., and President of Institute of Systematic Innovation, as well as, the first MATRIZ Specialist in Hong Kong.
Dr. Li introduced some innovative product. Then he explained "What is Innovation?". Innovation is Problem Solving! Moreover, the innovative product should be popular and financial success.
Then Dr. Li demonstrated the diagram between Innovation and Risk. He said that a tool called TRIZ could lead you to find out the innovative solution.
What is TRIZ? TRIZ is TheoriaResheneyvaIsobretatelskehuhZadach (Theory of Solving Problems Inventively). The TRIZ algorithm and tool kit became known to the west around 1990, following 30 years of development in the former Soviet Union (Genrich Alshuller, 1926-1998).
The TRIZ knowledge base could find in your surroundings. Alshuller defined 40 universal inventive principles that served as solutions to the most complex technical conflicts.
After that Dr. Li introduced the five elements in TRIZ platform. They were Function Analysis, Contradiction, Ideal, Resource and Technology Trend.
TRIZ is now used by major corporations such as Samsung, Intel, Proctor and Gamble, Motorola, Hewlett Packard, GE, Unilever, and Dow Chemical, etc.
At the end, Dr. Li showed the different impact between conventional method and TRIZ method.
I represented HKSQ to present a souvenir to Dr. Michael YH Li.
