To pay tribute to the Nobel laureate, Professor Kao, Hong Kong Science Park’s architectural centrepiece, the Auditorium ( also known as the “Golden Egg”) was renamed the “Charles K. Kao Auditorium” in March 2010. In addition to naming the Auditorium in his honour, Hong Kong Science Park is setting up a Showcase of Professor Kao’s personal accomplishments and his contribution to Hong Kong’s technological development.
It is our great pleasure Prof. and Mrs. Charles K. Kao participated the Opening Ceremony of "Professor Charles K Kao: Father of Fibre Optics” Showcase on 19 January 2011.
In the beginning, Mr. Nicholas Brooke (Chairman of HKSTPC) gave an opening speech.
Mr. Andrew Lai (Deputy Commission for Innovation and Technology) briefed the important of Innovation and support the technology development in Hong Kong.
Then Mrs. Kao said she hoped that it could assist the cultivation of young people in science and technology.
Two young scientists were invited to share their research experience. One of common experience is "Don't Give-up and Insist".
The first one was Lau Hiu Fung (劉曉鋒), who has been suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy since he was eight, graduated with first-class honour in computing from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2009. He participated in the 2009 Amway Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition with his final year project "RFID/SMS-based Flight Information and Advertisement System" and won the Gold Award.
The second one was Ms. Clara Lee On Kay (李安琪), who is Form 5 student. Her famous research achievement was the anticancer properties of Oolong tea. She studied with Dr. HY Cheung (Asso. Professor, Biology and Chemistry Dept., CityU) for Oolong tea project.
Two young scientists took a photo with Prof. and Mrs. Kao.

I took a photo with Ms. Clara Lee On Kay. We both learnt from Dr. HY Cheung in CityU but I was taught by Dr. Cheung twenty years ago. We would meet again in coming seminar for Tea and Management on April 2011. The seminar is organized by EngD Society and IEEE, and HKSQ is one of supporting organizations.
Tonight, I left late and took some photos for sharing.
