Visit to Hong Kong Palace Museum for Sanxingdui (三星堆)

Minda and I went to the Hong Kong Palace Museum (香港故宮文化博物館) after Tai Chi Beginner Class (太極初班) on 17th Dec 2023. Today is very cold down to 12oC.

Our purpose is to see the Sanxingdui Sanxingdui (三星堆) cultural relics.

The exhibition named “Gazing at Sanxingdui: New Archaeological Discoveries in SiChuan” (凝視三星堆──四川考古新發現).

In the beginning, a brief of history for this discovery was mentioned.

Entered the museum, many sculptures were observed such as human head with gold mask, giant standing figure, mask with protruding pupils, etc.

The Giant standing figure (大位人像) is replica.

Human head with gold mask.

We selfie with one of big mask.

The largest gold mask was found in Sanxingdui which weighs 350g that made of an alloy with approximately 85% gold plus 15% other metals including silver, copper, iron and tin.

The digital display (hologram) for Bronze Tree (青銅神樹) was showed. The Bronze Tree was found very consistent with the "Fusang Tree" (扶桑樹) described in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" (山海經).

After that the chronology of the archaeological cultures in the Chengdu Plain Sichuan was showed.

Finally, a video demonstrated how to excavate, protect and preserve unearthed archaeological artifacts.

Completed tour of the exhibition room, we took a photo in the platform and saw an event outside.

I brought a souvenir that gave people an experience of archaeological discovery.

It would be one of six sculptures.

On 23 Dec 2023, Minda and I opened this gift and simulated to find the sculpture in the archaeological site.

Finally, we found the Bronze Standing Figure!
