Hong Kong Association for
Testing, Inspection and Certification Limited (HKTIC) celebrated the 36th
Anniversary in the Annual General Meeting and Annual Gathering held on 8th
Dec 2016. Before the dinner, I took
photos with my TIC friends. (Left: Ir.

Then Gabuji and I took a photo
with Mr. W.W. Wong (Executive Administrator, HKAS).
After that I took a photo with
Mr. Dominic Lam (CMATCL) and Mr. Richard Fung (HKSTC). They both were great men in the TIC industry.
Firstly, Mr Harry Yeung (Chief
Operations Officer, HKSTC), who was the new chairman of HKTIC, gave a welcome
speech to us. He said HKTIC would continuously
collaboration with HKCTC, foreign research institutions and industries to
promote TIC in Hong Kong.
Dr. Miro F.Y. Ng (Director, Guild
Gem Laboratories (HK)) was our guest speaker and his presentation entitled “Authentication
Techniques for Gemstones”. The genstone’s
“5 Emperors, 1 King and 1 Queen” (五皇一王一后) collectively were “Diamond, Ruby,
Sapphire, Emerald, Emerald, Chrysoberyl, Fei Cui (Jadeite Jade) and Pearl”.
Then Dr. Ng introduced different
diamond and pearl to us. He said many Gemstones
were fake or Artificial. Some forged
technical was very advance that the traditional testing methodology did not
work. In natural, stones were not
distinct to be real or fake. They were
classified as:

Natural stone
-
Treated stone included Composite stone (Doublet and Triplet)
-
Synthetic stone / Artificial stone (Man made stone)

Simulated stone / Imitation
The following diagrams showed the
sapphires after heat treatment, traditional testing equipment and
certificates. A very beautiful and
professional certificate with the gemstones was a normal.
After that Dr. Ng introduced different
authentication technique included FTIR, Raman, UV-Vis, XRF-chemical analyses, LA-ICP-MS,
Mr Felix Chan (Immediate Past Chairman,
HKTIC) presented a certificate to Dr. Miro F.Y. Ng.
After the presentation, we took a
group photo. Firstly, all guests and
committee members took a photo.
