HKSQ Student Project Competition 2013 - Presentation

The HKSQ Company Based Student Project Competition offers an opportunity for students to work on an actual industrial case and propose resolution annually. This allows them to gain experience of resolving an industrial problem. Today was the final session in which different team suggested and presented their solutions (6 April 2013). Previous sessions (Briefing and Plant Visit) stated in reference.

In the beginning, Mr. Karson Chui (Chairman, HKSQ) presented the rules of the HKSQ Student Project Competition 2013 presentation.



We invited three guests into our judge panel. They are Mr. Derek Kung (Manager, Quality Management in TTI; Coop member of HKSQ), Mr. SW Lam (Executive Director of Product Innovations Plus Limited; Exco member of HKSQ) and Dr. Aaron Tong (Managing Director, TQM Consultants Co., Ltd.; Ex-chairman of HKSQ).



The first presentation team (Team 7) come from CityU and they presented the solution to optimize the checking procedures of power tools.


Some redesigned the testing fixture and processes were suggested to improve the efficient.


The second presentation team (Team 5) also come from CityU and they studied the process audit and provided some improvement suggestions.


They used Pareto Chart to identify the key problems and suggested to use checklist for preventative actions.


The third presentation team (Team 2) was studied at HKUST and their topic was same as the Team 7.


They proposed to use all-in-one testing device to reduce the testing processes.


The fourth presentation team (Team 6) was studied at CityU and they studied how to improve process.


They proposed to use information technology to enhance the monitoring process.


The four presentation team (Team 3) was from HKUST and they focused on the topic for supplier audit process improvement.


They formulated the Supplier Audit Index (SAI) and proposed to enhance the Supplier Score Card.


The last presentation team (Team 1) also come from HKUST and they also studied on supplier audit process.


They found the uneven auditor passing rate in different supplier and suggested a rewarding system.


After the judges discussion, Mr. Derek Kung (Manager, Quality Management in TTI) gave a briefing to all students. Derek asked student to reserve 1% of their study time to think about what path (or area of interest) they want to go. It would be helpful for students career development.


The 2nd Runner Up was City University of Hong Kong (Team 6).


The 1st Runner Up was The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Team 3).


The Champion was City University of Hong Kong (Team 7).


Then Karson represented HKSQ to present souvenir to Derek.
