Introduction of Upcoming Energy Management System Development

With increasing pressures on organizations to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs, effective management of resources is now more essential than ever. A seminar entitled “Introduction of Upcoming Energy Management System Development” was organized by SGS and co-organized by HKSQ and ASQ held on 14 Nov 2010.

It is pity that I haven’t joined the seminar. However, Dr. Albert Tsang (Past Chairman of HKSQ) and Peter Fung (Ex-co member of HKSQ) had joined the seminar and took some photos for sharing.

In the beginning, Dr. Albert Tsang introduced Hong Kong Society for Quality to all participants and then introduced the speakers from SGS.

The first speaker was Mr. Stephen Leung (Certification Officer, SGS HK Ltd.) and his key topic was “Overview ISO 50001 – Energy Management”.

Firstly, Mr. Leung briefed the energy consumption in Hong Kong.

Then he introduced five items related to energy performance included “Energy Use”, “Energy Consumption”, “Energy Intensity”, “Energy Efficiency” and “Other”.

Mr. Leung briefed the Energy Management System Model in ISO 50001.

Finally, he concluded a high degree of similarity between ISO 50001 and “ISO 9001 and ISO 14001”.

The second speaker was Mr. Tony Ho (Senior Manager of Energy & Carbon Services, SGS HK Ltd.) and his presentation focused on “Overview of Energy Audit”.
Mr. Tony Ho said energy management is an ongoing process through audit process to verify their performance.

Then Mr. Ho mentioned the benchmarking scheme using Energy Utilitzation Index (EUI).
Finally, he shared some case for proposed energy management opportunities (EMOs).
