PolyU Seminar on How to Start Up a Business

PolyU FHKPUAA Young Alumni Sub-committee organized a seminar on “How to Start Up a Business” both onsite and online on 13th Mar 2023. Dr. Michael Ho (Founder of iLoveCare) was the guest speaker. In the beginning, he explained why is a new business because gap was observed. 


In order to find where the gap in your field or insight, there are four sources and they are observation, experiences, knowledge and proof with evidences. Some researches should be performed to proof your business concept.


However, the vision and mission are most important to sustain your business and iLoveCare combining with innovation, love and care to provide service aimed to facilitate holistic medical and nursing care across different healthcare disciplines in home setting. So that enhancing the quality of life with safety and effective care for clients and their families/parents. 


Then Dr. Ho described a new business must have four dimensions and they are Innovation, Demand, Supply and Uniqueness. His company new business are including home care, private nursing care, onsite blood taking by nurses, first aid and nursing service, health talk and training, home palliative care, etc.


After that Dr. Ho asked what is your background so as to understand your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT). Finally, Dr. Michael Ho discussed their potential customers, service, management, operations, marketing and finance.


During Q&A, business like research must unique and innovative. Dr. Ho emphases is the company name that must be simple and direct. So that your potential clients only see your company name and then understand your service.
