IPHatch inspiring panel - Innovations · Future Living · Startups

IPHatch inspiring panel and webinar “Innovations · Future Living · Startups” was co-organized by HKTDC and IPHatch Startup Foundry on 7th Apr 2021.  The panelists included Ir. Andrew Young (Assoicate Director, (Innovation) Sino Group), Mr. Atsushi Taira (Managing Director, Mistletoe Singappore), and Mr. Matthijs van Leeuwen (Chief Innovation Officer, Sunway Group).  Mr. Jason Loh (CEO & Founder Piece Future) is the moderator.


Mr. Atsushi Taira (Managing Director, Mistletoe Singappore) was the keynote speaker and he introduced Mistletoe to us in the beginning. Then he briefed Mr. Taizo Son (funder, Mistletoe Inc) who had multiple roles including serial entrepreneur, startup incubator & investor.  And then he also briefed his background to us.


Mistletos is Collective Impact Community that solving issues by innovations and by communities. They aim to “Making the World Better Place” for the next generations.  So that we turn entrepreneurial challenges into world impacts. 


After that Mr. Taira introduced Audacity that stands for Alternative Universal Design for A City (Design A City from Zero Scratch”.   It started as a private-public partnership since 2018.


Mr. Taira briefed the problems of urbanization and asked in another 100 years (2100), should cities look at the same?


Then he said we need to turn current paradigm to alternative paradigm that change from technology-centric design to humanity-centric design.


Finally, the new design theme included Individual (Learning, Job/Lifestyle, Wellness Healthcare), Infrastructure (Energy/Water, Housing, Transportation/Logistics), Community (Inclusive/Equality, Ownership/Sharing, Public Services) and Production (Food/Agriculture, Manufacturing/Makers, Sustainability/Environment).


After the speech, the inspiring panel started.  Ir. Andrew Young said students had no experience of life but without too much constraint that they would have more innovative ideas and could challenge “Why Not?”

Mr. Matthijs van Leeuwen said student should have ownership and deep understanding for solving problem that could be started in secondary school.

Mr. Atsushi Taira said young people had less constraint and think out of box.


At the end, Mr. Jason Loh introduced IPHatch Start-up Foundry that is an open innovation challenge looking for technology start-ups and entrepreneurs concepts to fruition by commercializing technology portfolios from renowned MNCs.
