The PolyU Webinar named “Advanced AI for Machine and
Process Monitoring in Digital Manufacturing” was organized by ISE Depart., PolyU
on 27th Feb 2024. This seminar introduced the recent methodological
advances of deep learning-based approaches in solving these problems for smart
and sustainable manufacturing. Dr. Min Xia (Asso. Professor, Western
University, Canada) was the guest speaker. He firstly introduced his background
and Western University.
Firstly, he briefed the AI, ML & DL as well as the
history of AI and asked if Generative AI is the third wave.
Then he introduced some typical applications of
machine learning in manufacturing.
After that Dr. Mix Xia introduced his focused researches
including i) Intelligent monitoring of complex machines; ii) Intelligent monitoring
and optimization of advanced manufacturing processes; and iii) renewable energy
prediction in smart grid.
Finally, he discussed some challenges in his researches
such as massive unlabeled data, sensor fusion, lack of data and working
condition variability, the degradation process, out-of-distribution data (OOD) and
build scientific machine learning model.
