HKSTP arranged online forums named “Reindustrialise
Hong Kong and the Way Forward” on 28th Jan 2021. There are separated
into two forums which are “Advanced Manufacturing in Hong Kong” and “Data in
Action”. I attended the first one
“Advanced Manufacturing in Hong Kong”.
Dr. HL Yiu (Head of Re-industrialization, HKSTP) was
moderator and gave a welcome speech and introduction the reindustrialization
policy in the beginning of the forum. We expected to create smart manufacturing
ecosystem.
Mr. William Yim (Executive Chairman & CTO, Sanwa
Biotech Limited) was the first speaker and he shared his re-industrialization
road. Firstly, he introduced his company
“Sanwa” since 1991 which competences in advanced manufacturing process
including micro joining, laser micro machining and precision mechanics, etc.
Then he mentioned their integration of advanced
technology for lab-on-chip for biological detection and testing including H1N1
and other diseases.
Finally, he briefed their production and laboratory facility
in Fo Tan. His future plan is to move or
expand their production line into AMC, HKSTP.
Dr. Alex Wong Siu-wah (Founder, King’s Flair
International (Holdings) Limited) was the second speaker and he shared his reindustrialization
path for 5 year practice on nanomaterial (e.g. nano fiber).
Then Dr. Wong said they would like to build a platform
for universities students who would like to work in the industry. He had already cooperated with 5 universities
in Hong Kong.
Finally, he introduced the key features of nanofibers
including high porosity, small pore size, interconnected pore structure, unique
physical and mechanical performance, as well as design flexibility for chemical/physical
surface functionalization. Lastly, he
showed their Nano Material R&D Lab to us.
The third speaker was Dr. Shuyu Chen (Director, Lumi Technology
Co., Ltd.) and his talk named “Intelligent Manufacturing of Advanced Function
Materials”. Their new material technology had developed since 2014. They used 5 years for commercialization.
And the Dr. Chen employed AI to enhance material customization
and development efficiency.
Lastly, Dr. Shuyu Chen shared their products employed
into different industries.
The forth speaker Mr. Raymond Shan (Principal Consultant,
HKPC) and his topic entitled “Intelligent Manufacturing (i-mfg) Enabled by
Smart Technology”. Firstly, he briefed
the goal of i4.0 that was to increase flexibility.
Then Mr. Shan introduced their framework of industry
4.0 and two key feathers were digitalization and connectivity. And then i4.0
smartification model was briefed that many HK companies were from -2i to 1i,
Germany companies were ahead from 1i to 2i.
Finally, he shared some successful i4.0 migration cases
enabled by HKPC such as Ka Shu Holding, Trio Electronics Ltd’s digitalization
& connectivity, etc.
Dr. T. John Koo (Director of Cyber-Physical Systems,
ASTRI) was the last speaker and his topic entitled “Collaborative Mobile
Manipulators”. Firstly, he introduced
smart factor for advanced manufacturing had the following features: High-Mix
Production, Low-Volume Manufacturing, Agile Product Design and Flexible
Deployment System.
And then Dr. Koo mentioned Mobile Platform and
Manipulator were key factors in smart factory.
He introduced a mobile manipulator (Dexterity plus Mobility) which
designed for implementation of smart factory.
Finally, Dr. Koo introduced their successful case to
employ Collaborative Mobile Manipulator in industrial Magnetic Head Clean Room
for TDK. Moreover, it won the Equipment
and Machinery Design Award under Hong Kong Award for Industries 2018.
Lastly, Dr. John Koo explained the smart manufacturing
concept using Digital Twin and Physical Twin together and their approach was
from Physical Space to Digital Space and then back to Physical Space.
