The HKSQ Company Based Student Project Competition aims to
offer an opportunity
for students to work on an actual industrial case and propose resolution
annually. This allows
university students to gain experience of resolving an industrial problem. The competition included three sessions. The first session is problems briefing and selection
those problems are designed and would be explained by Sponsor Company. Sanmina Corporation is the
sponsor company in 2017. The second session is factory visit and the last
session is
presentation of suggested solutions by different universities students.
The
briefing session of the competition was performed on 13th Feb 2017. Mr. Peter Fung (Chairman, HKSQ) led the
briefing session. He introduced our
sponsor company and invited their representative to brief the competition
questions.
Then Sanmina
representatives presented three titles as follows:
1. Inventory
reduction through effective simulation forecast & control on the supply
chain (by Ms. Becky Chan (Director, Program Management))
2. Labour
resource utilization improvement (by Mr. Quincy Wong (GM-MU2))
3. Equipment
utilization improvement (By Mr. Edward Law (Director, Operation))
Mr. Quincy
Wong introduced different topics for student teams. 
After
that students could ask some questions about three titles before
selection. Mr. Edward Law explained to
students.
Students
were from different universities (included CityU, CUHK, HKU, HKUST and PolyU)
had discussed to select problems for competition. Following photos were taken during their
discussion.
After
20min discussion, we wrote down different teams’ 1st and 2nd
priority choices. Each questions had at
least 2 teams and finally we got the event distribution for each
questions. The final result was recorded
on the whiteboard that Topic 1 selected by PolyU x2, Topic 2 selected by CityU
& HKUST and Topic 3 selected by CityU, CUHK and HKU.
At the
end, Mr. CP Chow (Former Chairman, HKSQ) briefed the visit time and gathering location
to students.
Then we
invited guests to have dinner and discussed the following matters.
