Dinner with Dr. KS Chin and EngD Cohorts

Dr. KM Yeung (Vitasoy) invited Dr. KS Chin, Dr. Henry Tsang (ISPL Consulting Ltd) and I to have dinner in Jasmine Restaurant on 7 Feb 2023. KM, Henry and I are CityU EngD Cohorts and under Dr. Chin’s supervision during EngD studying. 

Since Dr. Chin will be retired in this year, we have dinner and discuss our recently activities such as KM future study in education research.

Lunch with CityU mentee 2023

I have lunch with my mentee (Mr. Alex Cheung) under the College of Science Mentorship Programme in CityU AC2 Canteen on 2 Feb 2023.

Many students waited in AC2 Canteen because AC1 is not opened until Friday.

Alex is an Applied Physics student and interested in Quantum Computing. Moreover, he would like to further study for PhD after graduate. I suggested him to select the right final year project with right supervisor in his interested field. I also propose him to read my Youtube Channel about how to write thesis.

I wish Alex achieve his academic dream successfully.

My 15 years Quality Related Activities Summary and Analysis (2008-2022)

 I always summarized my whole years’ quality related activities at the end of each year since 2008. It is my 15 years to do this summary and is a good time for me to review all my studies which I have shared to world quality professionals regularly. My quality related activities are classified as 8 different types and they are “Seminar/Webinar”, “Training/Workshop”, “Visit”, “Conference”, “Invited Speaker”, “Teaching Course”, “Professional Gathering” and “Arrange Visit to HKSTP”. The following diagram showed the overall activities from 2008 to 2022. The top frequency year is in 2015. When I serviced in HKSTP, I arranged different visits for university, government department (HKAS), professional bodies (HKIE, HKSQ) and customer. It is mainly to visit our laboratories.

For pie chart, the top three activities in 15 years period are Seminar/Webinar (42%), Professional Gathering (19%) and Conference (13%). It is my learning practice through seminar/webinar. Networking with different professional is the second and the third is attending conference including local and international. I have attended ANQ Congress for 20 years since 2003. Other activities including visit (9%), attending training/workshop (7%) and to be invited as speaker (5%), as well as, performed training course (1%).

The following analysis diagram separated each activities by years. Since the top two activities (Seminar/Webinar and Professional Gathering) are compared high frequency (within 20 to 60 per year), it is separated from other activities to draw another diagram. The other activities are drawn into the last diagram (below 20 per year). It is easier to observe the variation by year.

In the coming year, I will still attend quality related activities that I am interested in, as well as, to share for different quality professional in HKSQ, ANQ, ASQ and IAQ, etc. One of trend of my studies will be shift from quantitative to qualitative.

ANQ Congress 2023 Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The 21st Asia Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 2022. ANQ 2023 website will be established soon. A sad news that we missed two ANQ friends last year and let’s remember their contribution - Dr. Ngo Van Nhon (VQAH) and Dr. Takeyoshi Kaneko (JSQC).

Activities Summary 2022

I would like to summarize all quality, innovation and AI related activities I participated in 2022 as follows.  This is the third years under Covid-19 pandemic, most of activities were performed online and onsite together such as the 20^th Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress (online) and the 7^th World Summit for Chinese Quality (WSCQ) both online and onsite. In 2022, I as IAQ VP-Communication (2020-2022) to transfer the old website to new website at https://iaq.wildapricot.org/ and I also elected as President in CityU EngD Society and created a website at https://engds.org/. I had invited to teach one of courses under the MSc in Knowledge and Technology Management in PolyU named “ISE 549 - Management of Innovation and Technology” in this year.

Unfortunately, we missed Prof. Cai Wen (Father of Extenics) on 5^th Nov 2021 and memorial meeting (蔡文教授追思会) on 22^nd Jan 2022. We also missed Dr. CO Chan who is CityU EngD cohort, Dr. Takeyoshi Kaneko (ANQ), Prof. Hans Dieter Seghezzi (IAQ) and Dr. Ngo Van Nhon (ANQ).

Remember Dr. Ngo Van Nhon, VQAH and ANQ Quality Professional

 A deeply mourned news received from Tran Hai Duc (Vice chairman, VQAH) on 29^th Dec 2022 that Dr. Ngo Van Nhon (Chairman of Vietnam Quality Association of Ho Chi Minh City (VQAH); President of Institute for Quality Assessment and Development (IQAD); The board member of Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) and the member of International Academy for Quality (IAQ)) passed away at 16:40PM of day 28/12/2022, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We lost a quality professional in ANQ family. Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) expressed hearty condolences to Dr. Ngo Van Nhon’s family, friends and colleagues. Moreover, Dr. Ngo was invited as keynote in the Global Virtual Summit on Future of Quality in Higher Education by QiETT of IAQ on 10 Dec 2022.

His presentation topic named “Sustainability Education Development with Integrated Management Systems Approaching”. It is the last time I met Dr. Ngo online.
