DIAMIDEX & BLC Webinar – Improve your Productivity with Legionella Pneumophila Rapid Method

 The Webinar entitled “Improve your Productivity with Legionella Pneumophila Rapid Method – A MICA Advance case study by BLC Macau” was organized by DIAMIDEX and BLC Macau on 28^th May 2025.

Ms. Veronica Ponnuthurai (Business Mager, Diamidex) was MC and Dr. Fanny Marie Passot (R&D Project Leader, Diamidex) was speaker. Mr. Leo Choi (District Manager, BLC Macau and Lab Manager, A&R Macau) was guest speaker to share case study using MICA Advance Legionella system.

Dr. Fanny Marie Passot was the first speaker and she firstly introduced Diamidex company background.

Then she shared their vision that making the invisible visible faster to make your world safer.

After that she mentioned MICA solution for different microorganism test with comparison between standard methods and Diamidex methods. They had shorter much testing time.

Dr. Fanny Passot introduced their breakthrough using Machine Learning to detect and identify microcolonies.

Finally, she compared MICA Legionella system with ISO 11731 workflow that reduced time to result from “7-14 days” to 2 days!

The overall comparison summary was showed. 

Mr. Leo Choi was the guest speaker and his topic named “How MICA Advance Legionella Improve Our Productivity”. 

In the beginning, Leo summarized his talk including purpose, process and payoff.

He comparison the cost efficiency from conventional method and MICA method in terms of steps, incubator space, sample handling limit, skill requested. MICA Advance Legionella demonstrated excellence performance.

After that he shared his daily workflow that one technician using MICA Advance Legionella to do 24 samples as well as E. Coli & HPC samples.

Finally, Leo concluded that they were able to handle 5 times more samples than original method and decreased the manpower need. 

At the end, Ms. Veronica Ponnuthurai wrapped up the webinar.

Lastly, Q&A session, Mr. Leo Choi answered some technical and practical questions.

Dashun Foundation Webinar – A brief talk on smart medication use (淺談用藥精明)

Dashun Foundation Webinar series (大舜慈善基金會 - 「舜」心學堂 線上講座系列) was held on 6 May 2025. The guest speaker was Mr. Peter Suen (孫耀燦藥劑師  明心醫療集團創辦人) and his topic named “A brief talk on smart medication use (淺談用藥精明)”. Peter Suen’s company is HKSQ corporate member. 

Firstly, Mr. Peter Suen introduced some fundamental concepts of medication use including drug allergy, adverse drug reaction (ADR), side effects, undesirable side effects and drug-drug interactions.

Then he briefed different forms of medication such as oral solid dosage forms including tablet, capsules and powder/granules.

Liquid for oral use included liquid, solution, drops, syrup, etc. Sometimes you need to shake the solution because the suspension is not evenly distributed.

For external applications, medication forms had ointments and creams. Is there a rumor that ointments are more effective than creams? This is not true. It depends on your skin condition. If your skin is dry on the surface, you can use ointments to retain moisture. Otherwise, you can use creams to reduce the moisture level of the skin to normal levels.

More direct effect is injections. It covers four types of injection such as intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous and intradermal.

The last one is for inhalers. The powder/gas/solution should be suitable weight and size that could be inhale into the airway. If too heavy, all medicine stayed in your tongue.

All forms are related to Pharmacokinetics that including absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination.

Finally, Peter briefed four purposes of consumption of medicines and they were cure, release symptom, control situation and prevention. 

Lastly, he mentioned some alert issues for use of drugs in elderly.

HKSQ x Intertek Technical Visit and Seminar on Compliance of GMP

Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) and Intertek co-organized Technical Visit and Seminar on Compliance of Health Supplements and Chinese Herbal Medicine with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Standards on 22^nd Feb 2025. In the morning, everyone gathered at Futian Station.

We separated into two teams to go to the Intertek in Guangdong-Macau Medical Science and Technology Industrial Park.

We passed the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge (深中大橋) to go to Zhuhai.

The first team arrived the R&D and Testing Building.

In the beginning, Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) gave opening speech.

And then she presented the HKSQ flag to Mr. Roger Huang (GM of HBPA Intertek China) for appreciating the arrangement of this visit and seminar. 

Mr. Roger Huang was the first speaker who introduced Intertek service on GMP compliance for health products and Chinese herbal medicines. In the beginning, he started by three key questions that were “Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going?”

Then he introduced Intertek background and service in China.

After that he briefed the history of GMP – 21CFR 210 & 211 as well as some key sessions.

Lastly, he shared his audit experience on Man, Machine, Material, Method, Environment, Measurement, Record and Complaint.

Mr. Zhou Haicai (Auditor and Consultant) was the second speaker and his talk named “GACP standards and certification verification points for medicinal plant bases” (藥用植物基地GACP標準與認證核查要點).

Firstly, he introduced the history of Good Agricultural and Wild Collection Practice” for medicinal and aromatic plants from 1998 to 2006.

Then he briefed China standard T/CCCMHPIE 2.1-2018 “Specification on Good Agriculture and Collection Practices for Medicinal Plants”.

After that he compared with different GACP including China, WHO, EU, etc.

Finally, Mr. Zhou explained their audit service for entering EU market.

After the seminar, we all had a gift from Intertek. It is a book named “Leadership with SOUL”.

The second part was visiting laboratory. Sample preparation room and microbiology laboratory were visited.

We observed that Intertek redefined the Total Quality Assurance and stated their purpose and vision.

Representatives of Intertek explained their daily operation.

We took a photo with flame hoods.

And then we visited the instrument room (e.g. GCMS, HPLC).

Lastly, we took a group photo for memory.

After that, we went to the canteen to have lunch. It electronically measures your food type and weight to calculate costs.

This is the recycling belt for washing dishes.

At the end, we separated two teams that Minda and I went to Futian Station. We took a photo in front of the brand “Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology, Industrial Park” for memory.

The other team, led by Dr Jane Wong and Dr Aaron Tong, travelled to Macau to taste its special cuisine. We had a very good trip today and thanks Intertek.
