CityU Eminence Society (CES) Seminar – How Hong Kong Can Contribute to the Nation's Implementation of Global Governance Initiatives

CityU Eminence Society (CES) invited Mr. Leung Chun-ying (Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, GBS, JP) (全國政協副主席梁振英先生，大紫荊勳賢，GBS，JP) to give us a seminar entitled “How Hong Kong Can Contribute to the Nation's Implementation of Global Governance Initiatives” (城賢匯專題講座「香港如何助力國家實踐全球治理倡議」) on 13^th Mar 2026 in CityU Alumni Lounge. I was very lucky having opportunity to take a photo with Mr. CY Leung and Dr. Allen Shi (Chairman, CES) at the end of the seminar. This booklet is Mr. CY Leung's campaign brochure, which I received 14 years ago. It has his signature on it.

Before the seminar, my colleague Dr. Jeff Tang drove me to go to CityU Alumni Lounge which inside the student dormitory.

Jeff attended another alumni dinner here and showed me around his dorm room when studied in CityU.

I arrived the venue.

Firstly, I met Mr Simon Hui (Former Chairman, CityUES) and Prof. Andrew Fan (Distinguished Alumni and Hon Fellow of CityU).

Then we took photo with CES members including Ms. Pheony Tsang, Dr. Raymond Leung, Mr. Alex Zhong, Mr. Robert Lui, Dr. Steve Chuang, Mr. Chris Jung and Mr. Andrew Fan, etc.

I also met my BCH cohort Mr. YIP Wai Yuen

Before seminar start, Mr. Andrew Fan introduced today’s MC and secretary of CES.

Then, Mr. Simon Hui sponsored a hair dryer for each participant.

Our guest speaker Mr. CY Leung arrived.

And then all the participants took a group photo together for memory.

Beginning the seminar, Dr. Allen Shi (Chairman, CES) gave opening speech.

Mr. CY Leung delivered a keynote speech entitled “How Hong Kong Can Contribute to the Nation's Implementation of Global Governance Initiatives”.

He said “On September 1, 2025, President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" summit. He proposed the Global Governance Initiative, working alongside all nations to advance the establishment of a more just and reasonable global governance system, and join hands in building a community with a shared future for mankind.”

Mr. CY Leung added the translation of “人類命運共同體” should be “Shared Future”

He also quoted President Xi’s four expectations for Hong Kong:

To be more proactive in supporting the country’s comprehensive opening up.
To be more proactive in integrating into the overall development of the country.
To be more proactive in participating in the practice of national governance.
To be more proactive in promoting international cultural exchanges.

After that he introduced the work of the GX Foundation and how the foundation connects people in developing countries with Hong Kong through the Belt and Road Initiative.

Finally, he mentioned that GX is a form of people-to-people diplomacy, embodying our country's diplomatic principles of "closeness, sincerity, benefit, and inclusiveness." 「親、誠、惠、容」

Q&A questions, Dr. Steve Chuang, and Prof. Andrew Fan asked different questions respectively.

After the seminar, I met EngD cohort Dr. Andy Wong.

I missed to take photo with our EngD Society Advisory Dr. Augustine Chow.

Finally, I took a photo with Ms. Pheony Tsang (Deputy Director, ARO, CityU).

At the end, Dr. Jeff Tsang and his roommate Mr. Ho Kai-pong, Gabriel (Registered Social Worker, Christian Family Service Centre) came here, and we took another photo.

CityU Eminence Society (CES) – The 8th Exco Inauguration Ceremony & Annual Dinner 2026

The 8th Exco Inauguration Ceremony and Annual Dinner was held on 8 March 2019. I was honor to be invited by Dr. Raymond Leung (Immediate past chairman, CES) to attend the dinner. We are CityU EngD cohorts and then Dr. Augustine Chow, Dr. Herbert Yeung, Dr. Raymond Leung and I took a group photo for memory.

Before enter the hall, I took a photo with Dr. Allen Shi (Chairman, CES). The mission of CES is “To unite senior alumni to proactively contribute their resources, expertise and networks to help advance the University and serve the community.”

Dr. YC Chau and I also took a photo in front of the banner.

When I entered the hall, I met Prof. Freddy Boey Yin Chiang (President, CityU) and Prof. CS Lee (Provost and Deputy President, CityU).

Then Prof. SUN Dong (Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry) arrived and we took a group photo with President.

And then we met Mr. Andrew Fan (Distinguished Alumni) and we set in the same table.

I also met Dr. Wilson Chan Fung-Cheung (Advisor and Founding Member, CES).

Ir Sunny Lee is now the chairman of Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI).

I set with Prof. Philip Chan (Emeritus Professor (Electrical and Electronic Engineering), PolyU).

I met Mr. Basil Wai (CEO, HKEIA) and we also attended the HKCTC award ceremony in this afternoon.

Ms. Kelly Liu (Hon secretary, HKSQ) joined the table with Herbert and Augustine.

Before ceremony, some students dancing performance had been showed.

It is a big hall in the Kerry Hotel.

And then addresses by different University representatives including Prof. Freddy Boey, Prof. Michael Ngai (Chairman, CityU Council), Dr. Raymond Leung (Immediate Past Chairman, CES) and Dr. Allen Shi (Chairman, CES).

After that Dr. Raymond Leung passed the CES plaque to the new chairman Dr. Allen Shi.

All CES delegates and guests raised a toast to all participants.

Then I also met Prof. Timothy W. Tong (Former President, PolyU) and we took a photo together with Prof. Philip Chan.

I met Mr. Dominic Lam again and we both attended the HKCTC award ceremony in this afternoon.

At the end of the dinner, I took a photo with Kelly and left together.

CityU Eminence Society (CES) visits CityU (Dongguan)

CityU Eminence Society (CES) arranged a visit to CityU (Dongguan) on 17^th May 2025. We arrived at City University of Hong Kong as the meeting point and started at 8:30am.

We took a group photo on the tour bus before the journey started.

We arrived the CityU (Dongguan).

Minda and I took a photo in front of the University Administration Building.

Dr. YC Chau and Dr. Luk Chi Fai were also joined this trip.

In the beginning, Ms. Natalia Seng (Deputy Chairman, CES) gave welcome remark.

Afterwards, the Secretary of CityU (Dongguan) introduced the background and environment of the campus.

Then we took a group photo.

I met EngD cohort Dr. Wing Hong SZETO and we took a photo in front of library.

And then we visited the student accommodation.

We visited boys’ dorms. The notice stated girls are not allowed to enter the boys’ dormitory.

The dorm was found two beds with terrace!

There is a bed on top and a table on the bottom for studying.

Tmall campus was observed.

Recycling bins are everywhere.

And then we visited the CityU (DG) Lodge for experts.

One large living room and three bed rooms are provided.

We also took a group photo at the photo spot.

Finally, we visited the lecture hall, which can accommodate 318 participants.

There are large displays available for presentation use.

Then we stayed in meeting room for sharing.

Afterwards, the representative of CityU (Dongguan) introduced the campus and development plan as well as the vision and mission for future development.
