Poem for China's Chang'e 6 lunar probe

Chang'e-6 collected samples from the far side of the moon and returned to Earth. The returner arrived in Beijing on Wednesday (26 Jun 2024). Prof. TN Goh (吳桐毅) (SQI) modified a poem by Li Bai (李白 - 將進酒) and shared in the WeChat group (全球華人品質聯盟太原之旅) on 28 Jun 2024.

君不见,嫦娥奔月无虚言,广寒往返只等闲。

君不见,质量工程全护航,人有宝壤尽开颜。

Then I also modified Li Bai poem to follow Prof. TN Goh below.

航天得意須盡歡,莫使玉兔空對月.

月背著陸必有用,千金散盡月壤來.

EngD Industry Lunch in PolyU

Dr. YC Chau and Dr. Vincent Fung come to PolyU and invited me to have lunch together on 19th Jun 2024. They discussed who is the first PhD in PolyU. I said Dr. Goman Ho (Arup Fellow & Director of Innovation, ARUP) is the first one. After that we really met Dr. Goman Ho and we took a photo for memory.

Then we had lunch and discussed the trend of industry.  Dr. Vincent Fung will go to Canada and back to HK in September.

Hopefully, we will have more cooperation in near future.

(P.S. HKSQ had invited Dr. Goman Ho given a talk on 19 Dec 2008 for Beijing Olympics Construction Project)

I Ching Advanced Class II Graduation Trip (易經高班II畢業之旅)

Advanced class II for I Ching (易經) was completed on 4th Apr 2024. We had joined the graduation trip from 8th to 15th Jun 2024. Minda and I arrived airport and met I Ching classmates.

Since we arrived early, we visited the Skydeck except Partick Lui and Unix. They went to the VIP room. Ms. Su (“So Easy”) went to the hotel from the mainland.

We took a group photo before boarding the plane. Kinsen Leung brought the I Ching (易經) folding fan and Karen brought the Chinese folding fan with the word “法財侶地” indicating Right Method, Sufficient Money, Good Friends and Platform/Place.

We arrived Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (成都天府國際機場). After landing, Minda and I took photo with the small plane.

Then we got on the travel bus and went to the MUSTEL hotel.

It is a nice room!

Day 1: Sanxingdui Ancient Ruins (三星堆古遺址) (9 Jun 2024)
First day we visited Sanxingdui Ancient Ruins (三星堆古遺址). With a history of 3,000 to 5,000 years ago, it is the largest, longest-lasting, and ancient Shu cultural site discovered in southwest China. It was also known as the "Source of the Yangtze River Civilization."

The design of the museum is great!

Minda and So Easy watched the bronze mask.

There are many Sanxingdui bronze masks.

Minda and I took a photo with a nearly four-metre-tall bronze tree.

We leave through the spiral walkway.

One of the souvenir shops is located outside the museum.

When we left, the tour guide took a group photo for us.

Finished the visit, we went to the JI Hotel Leshan (樂山全季酒店).

We saw a food delivery robot that could take an elevator to different floors.

Hotel room is large!

We had a great lunch and dinner on the first day.

Day 2: Leshan Giant Buddha (樂山大佛) and Huanglongxi Town (黃龍溪古鎮) (10 Jun 2024)
Minda and I took a photo in the entry to the Leshan Giant Buddha.

I took a selfie while waiting in line.

Seven flowers took a photo in front of the Lingyun Temple (凌雲寺).

Minda and I took a close-up shot of the Griant Buddha.

View from Giant Buddha

The legs of the Buddha are under maintenance.

We took with Ms. Su (蘇醫師 “So Easy”).

As we left, we saw the I Ching Cave.

I also brought some Giant Buddha souvenirs in the shop.

Afterwards we arrived at the ferry terminal and took a group photo while waiting for the tour guide to buy tickets.

We observed Giant Buddha by ferry.

We also took a group photo with Buddha and China flag.

The second location is Huanglongxi Town. So Easy, Rachel and Minda took a photo in front of the archway.

Many children play with water guns!

Minda and I came to Dongzhai Gate (東寨門), which is Kongming Tower (孔明樓).

Acquired Gossip (後天八卦) was drawn in the floor!

The hotel room is also very big! I like big paintings.

Before dinner, we tried the Xinjiang lamb kebabs (新疆烤羊肉串). (Note: Little Partick’s favorite)

We had happy lunch and dinner in day 2.

Remember Dr. H. Jame Harrington, ASQ & IAQ Quality Professional

A deeply sad news received from Acn. Lars Sorqvist (President, International Academy for Quality (IAQ)) on 10th Jun 2024 that IAQ Honorary Academician Jim Harrington passed away on 7 Jun 2024 at 95 years old. On behalf of the Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ), I would like to express my sincere condolences to Dr. Jim Harrington’s family, friends and colleagues.

(IAQ President:1991-1993 H. James Harrington, USA)

I found our first photo was taken in ASQ World Conference for Quality and Improvement (WCQI) 2011.

(Left: I (Dr. Lotto Lai), Ms. Minda Chiang, Dr. Harrington and Mr. Doug Nelson)

After 5 years, I also attended the WCQI 2016 and met Dr. Harrington again.

(Left: Dr. H. James Harrington (CEO, Harrington Institute), Mr. Doug Nelson (Lean master consultant of Harrington Institute, CSSMBB), I and Mr. Tracy L. Owens.)

Roland and I also took a photo with him during IAQ General Meeting in 2016. He led the Innovation and Quality Think Tank (IQTT) at that time.

Recently, I met Dr. H. James Harrington online for webinars named “Using the ISO 56002 Innovation Management System” in 2022 and “Innovative for Success in the Disruptive Times” in 2020.

In 2011, my supervisor Dr. KS Chin elected as associate academician of IAQ and joined the general meeting. Dr. Harrington was here and sitting in the first seat on the left.

Remember Dr. Harrington’s contribution on quality and innovation management. RIP.
