HKSQ AGM Seminar on Industry 4.0 in Quality Management

HKSQ Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on 27 Sep 2019 and a seminar named “Industry 4.0 in Quality Management”.  This seminar aims to enable participants to acquire basic understanding of Industry 4.0 data-driven quality management and its implementation in your business process. Quality Professional will need to embrace i4.0 technologies and use them to drive innovation while improving overall quality.  I would like to share both HKSQ Seminar and AGM 2019 below.  Firstly, I introduced tonight guest speaker Mr. Patrick Kabasci (Director Operations, INC Invention Center Hong Kong) and he had been helping companies innovate in the context of Industry 4.0 in Germany.

In the beginning, Mr. Patrick Kabasci (Director Operations, INC Invention Center Hong Kong) briefed the vehicle industry design, production and product such as BMW.  

By allowing to analyze data from design, production and product in use, Industry 4.0 (i4.0) enabled new levels of detecting and removing quality issues in manufacturing.  

Then Mr. Patrick Kabasic introduced INC Invention Center and their vision was “We create world class innovations”.  Invention Center led research partners (e.g. Fraunfofer IPT, HKPC, etc.) enabled Big Innovations to happen.  They also provided services to Hong Kong-Guangdong Greater Bay Area.

And then he used the roundabout in Berlin, Germany and Paris, France to explain self-organizing system.  Even though car capacity is higher, its accident is also high.  In order to reduce the accident and increase capacity, data from all cars and environment should be analyzed to make the right scheduling. 

Mr. Patrick Kabasic introduced Smart i4.0 navigator in which started from “Value” to New Digital Business Models through Smart Products, Process, Networks & Production.  Each device consisted four enablers and they were Sensors & Input, Connectivity, Data Analytics and Output & Human-machine interfaces (HMI).

Related to quality management, value on productivity and efficiency under industry 4.0 had improve quality cost, flexibility and time.

He raised one of examples named “Smart Bin” in which employed four enablers to enhance the components lean and on-time supply.

Industry 4.0 enabled transparency and faster and sounder implementation through digital shadow of production and real-time data analytics so as to reduce latency time.  

The whole industry 4.0 process had 40 steps and “Quality Control & Product Release” located at the end of process from step 37 to step 40.  

Q&A Session:

Prof. Fugee Tsung asked the different between data analysis and digital shadow.  Mr. Patrick Kabasic said digital shadow was overall outline for different data in the whole process.

Dr. Victor Lo asked for data reliability and culture.  Patrick said used enablers to ensure data accuracy and culture building was not implemented the whole company immediately. It needed to set small prior for trial first.  

Lastly, I represented HKSQ to present souvenir to the speaker.

Before the seminar, I (Chairman, HKSQ) held the AGM meeting and briefed the Chairman report to all members. One of key achievements was awarded TID SME Development upto $1,050,129 on 17 Jan 2019.  HKQAA worked as our implementation agent. 

The project named “Feasibility Study on the Quality of Hong Kong Start-up Development for Supporting the Sustainable Business Growth”.
