Classmates
of I Ching (易經高班)
joined Prof. Pang (彭泓基教授) and his calligraphy teacher
talk named “Chinese Wisdom and Calligraphy Grammar (中華智慧與書法文法)”on
23rd Feb 2024. Before the talk, we met Prof. Pang in the entry and
took a photo for memory.

In the
beginning, organizer presented the certificates to guest speakers (Prof. Pang
and Mr. Cen Jiqiu (岑寂秋)).
Prof.
Pang was the first speaker and he explained what is culture? He said it is inheritance
of wisdom (智慧的傳承).
Then
he introduced the I Ching and one of key concepts is “Observation get Meaning (觀象取意)”.
Yin Yang (陰陽), Change I (變易),
Simple I (簡易) and Unchanged I (不易)
were also mentioned.
After
that Prof. Pang briefed the 5 thousand histories of China combined with
Calligraphy development.
He
introduces some numbers to help us easily remember the length of different
dynasties in China.
Four
types of Chinese Calligraphy scripts are briefed and they are seal script (篆書),
official script (隸書), regular script (楷書)
and cursive script (草書).
Prof.
Pang mentioned Mr. Yu (于右任) who standardized the cursive
script. And then showed different types of Chinese Calligraphy in different
dynasties.
Finally,
he explained what Chinese beauty is, not only visual and auditory, but also
objective feeling. However, different cultures have different definitions. The
key points of Chinese beauty are Wei (味) Xin (心),
Dao (道)
and Wen (文).
He
then explained why Chinese Calligraphy to be Art.
Before
end the first part of the talk, Prof. Pang demonstrated his words about sword
and piano (劍膽琴心).

the break, I Ching classmates took a group photo for memory.

In
second part, Mr. Cen Jiqiu (岑寂秋) shared his Chinese Calligraphy
life and study path. He said Chinese Calligraphy is like no sound music. It
needs understanding Chinese culture and different styles from ancient
calligraphers.
Finally,
Mr. Cen demonstrated his Chinese Calligraphy for participants.
He gave
his calligraphy to the organizer for memory.
And
also prepared some calligraphies for others.
