Advanced Class II for I Ching (易經高班II)–Lecture 1

Minda and I joined Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class II for I Ching (易經) in this year. The first lecture was held on 24th Feb 2024. I had breakfast in the ELEMENTS and took a photo in the Loong sculpture. 


In the beginning, Prof. Pang reviewed the I Ching course and its perspective.


He quoted Buddhism about the highest state of human being is that the environment changes with the heart (境隨). He also used Maslow's hierarchy of needs to explain the life pursuit.


Then he mentioned the ideal talent model that contain Chinese culture.


After that Prof. Pang used Qian Gua (乾卦) and Kun Gua (坤卦) to describe the wave theory.


He also briefed the key points of "Six Wisdoms of Management"《六慧管理》

The path to wisdom begins with sincerity (智慧之道,誠為終始)

Know yourself and others, have insight into the world (自知知,洞察世情)

Concentrate your mind and will, knowing what to choose (凝神養志,知所取捨)

Assess the situation and decide on a strategy (審時度勢,慮定謀略)

Learn from the past to know the present, deep thinking the truth (鑒古知今,窮理深思)

From self-cultivation to peace in the world, harmony and no hindrance (修齊治平,圓融無礙)



Finally, he reviewed the Innate Gossip (先天八卦) and the Acquired Gossip (後天八卦). The Acquired Gossip (後天八卦) related to some numbers that can be employed for divination (占卜).


Nine Palaces Flying Star Chart (九宮飛星圖) was explained.


And then Prof. Pang did the exercise using phone numbers matching with five elements (五行) for prediction. The last two digits are related to children / subordinates. The 2nd last two numbers are related to your couple or partner. The 3rd last two numbers are related to your business or wealth.


After the first part, Ms. Hin Hin Wong was invited to introduce tarot cards (塔羅牌) and compared with I Ching cards.


Ms. Hin Hin Wong mentioned that tarot cards demonstrated the present situation and mainly focused on feeling. It can show the present situation but without prediction and locations/directions (I Ching has).


Lastly, Prof. Pang introduced the Six Gods' Metaphors (六神喻事) and it was created by Zhuge Liang (諸葛亮).


After the first lecture, most of classmates have lunch with Prof. Pang in Yue Cuisine in Scout Association of Hong Kong (童軍總會粵品軒).
