COMP Academic Advising Session & Lunch Gathering 2026

Department of Computing (COMP) has organized an academic advising session and lunch gathering to give academic advisors a chance to meet our academic advisees on 5^th Mar 2026. I attended the session and lunch.

Teaching team Dr. Raymond Pang and Dr. Jeff Tang also joined.

In the beginning, Prof. Ken Yiu introduced the role of academic advisor.  

Then he briefed the rundown to all participants.

The experiential learning is a new requirement that is compulsory to year 1 students.

Work Integrated Education (WIE) was explained.

After that Prof. Henry Chan introduced Cambridge University (Girton College) Mathematics Summer Programme for students’ application in summer time.

Finally, we had discussion session with students.

I met my capstone project student Mr. YEUNG Chun San.

One of my advisees who is senior entry Mr. Ko Ka Ming.

Finally, we all had lunch together.

PolyU FITE Seminar Series - “HKQF-TIC and the Education & Career Pathway of the TIC Profession”

I was honor to be invited by Prof. Gary Tang as a speaker of FITE Seminar and the topic entitled “The Hong Kong Qualification Framework for Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) and the Education & Career Pathway of the TIC Profession” on 4^th Mar 2026. This Seminar is supported by UGC's Fund for Innovative Technology-in-Education (FITE) under Faculty of Science, PolyU.

Before the seminar began, I took a photo with Prof. Gary Tang and Dr. Joe Lam in class.

In the beginning, I introduced the Hong Kong Qualification Framework (HKQF) for testing, inspection and certification (TIC) and there has seven QF levels.

And then I briefed the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification which established in Sep 2009. It aims to formulate overall development strategy of Hong Kong’s testing and certification industry.

After that I shared my career experience entitled “Connect the dots” which was based on Steve Jobs statement in Stanford Commencement Address in 2005. He said “You can't connect the dots looking forward you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” I demonstrated all my dots in past 30+ years experience.

I asked the students to vote for their three areas of greatest interest, and the results showed that they were medical testing, food testing, and traditional Chinese medicine testing.

Finally, I surveyed the students about their desired careers and found that chemist, inspector, and auditor were the top three career choices.

The last topics I shared were my company-based capstone projects in COMP department. I invited TIC industry to support my students project including precious metals test, construction test, ecotoxicity test and drug packaging industry.

Then Prof. Gary Tang led the Q&A session.

Lastly, Dr. Joe Lam and Prof. Gary Tang presented souvenir to me.

CNY Family Gathering in Guangzhou 2026

On March 1, 2026, we went to Guangzhou to celebrate the Spring Festival and have Chinese New Year dinner with our family. We took the high-speed train from Shenzhen Station and arrived at Guangzhou East Station at 11:00am. 

Uncle and Aunty booked a table in our hotel for lunch together.

Afterwards, we went to Chunyang Temple (純陽觀) to hold a memorial ceremony for our grandparents.

I found my grandparents photo for memory.

It shows an old family photo taken in 1974.

When we left, we passed the Siqin Pavilion (思親亭).

The words "The Way of Nature" are carved on the stone.

The dinner would be held in the “LUMINA (星寰)”.

I selfie with my wife and brother.

Then we took a group photo in the platform.

Minda’s brother worked in Henderson and it is the Henderson Land Group 50^th anniversary.

My mother took a photo with her sisters and brother.

During dinner, I took a photo with my cousins.

The seventh uncle (七姨丈) brough his collection of Moutai (茅台). It is very special and only 38%!

We drunk it with uncle.

Also ask our cousins to try it.

It is very happy gathering.

At then end, we took a group photo outside the restaurant.

During the Spring Festival, my cousin (彬彬) used AI technology to bring old photos to life.

In this morning, we took a train back to Hong Kong.
