CityU EngD Society 3rd Exco Meeting 2024

The 3^rd CityU Engineering Doctorate (EngD) Society executive committee meeting was held on 29^th Oct 2024 at City Chinese Restaurant. When we arrived CityU, we saw the cooperation between CityU and University of Cambridge. 

During the dinner, we also discussed the extension of member scope so as to cover all doctorate and PhD alumni under College of Engineering. The AGM for CityU EngD Society 20^th anniversary celebration will be held in Jan 2025. Before that we will have extra-ordinary general meeting (EGM) in Dec 2024.

On 3 May 2024, CityUHK and the University of Cambridge solidified their commitment to mutual cooperation by signing two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in academic and research collaboration.

HKCTC Brand Strategy Revamp Meeting

 The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) has engaged the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) for a rebranding project focusing on redefining the visual identity and communication strategies of the Council. The HKCTC Brand Strategy Revamp was held on 29^th Oct 2024. Before the meeting, I met the manpower development panel Chairlady Dr. Emmie Ho and Mr. Steven Chan.

I met new PolyU colleagues Dr. Roberto Vilchis Echeverri (Assistant Professor of Practice, School of Design) and Ms. Bowie Tam.

I also met Mr. Robert Lui. We are both previous exco member of CityU Eminence Society.

In the beginning, Dr. Emmie Ho gave welcome speech on behalf of Prof. Wong Wing-Tak (Chairman, HKCTC). 

Then Ms. Bowie Tam reviewed the whole schedule of branding revamp.

Today’s agenda including to finalize brand compass, discussion of design direction and slogan.

We selected the direction of “Catalyzing Synergy for Boundless Growth”.

Then Dr. Robert V. Echeverri briefed the overview of logo type to us.

Life-span of a brand element included Brand name, Logo, Tagline, Website and Ad Campaign were discussed.

We all focused on PolyU design team presentation.

After that logo ideas were demonstrated. Different color codes and its explanation were mentioned.

Finally, we discussed the brand slogan in functional criteria and strategic & creative criteria.

Based on different criteria, positioning of HKCTC was proposed.

At the end, we took a group photo for memory.

Mr. Li Rong, Mickey and Mr. Li Zhiru (SZAQ & SICQ) visit PolyU

Mr. Li Rong, Mickey (李榕) (深圳市质量协会会长、深圳市品质消费研究院院长) and Mr. Li Zhiru (李智儒) (深圳市品质消费研究院、部长) (Shenzhen Association for Quality (SZAQ) and Shenzhen Institute of Consumption Quality (SICQ)) visited the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on 23^rd Oct 2024. Dr. Aaron Tong and I represented HKSQ to meet them and took a photo in front of PolyU. 

Then we visited PolyU Industrial Centre (IC) and my colleague Dr. SC Ho explained the smart home for elder to our guests.

After that we visited the AI and Robotic (AIR) laboratory.

The robot welcomes us using Mandarin.

We visited the drone racing area.

Finally, we visited was 3D Printing laboratory.

Before lunch, we visited Design School.

Then we had lunch in staff restaurant. We discussed the future cooperation with SICQ.

We met Prof. Winco Yung and took a photo for memory.

At the end, I led Mr. Li Rong, Mickey and Mr. Li Zhiru to visit our library.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Tung (VQAH) visit PolyU

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Tung (Former exco member of Vietnam Quality Association of Ho Chi Minh City (VQAH)) visited Hong Kong again. We met in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on 18^th Oct 2024. I met Dr. Tung and Mr. Law (Dr. Tung son-in-law's father) in front of PolyU main entry and took a photo for memory. 

Then I led Dr. Tung inside PolyU and took a photo in front of nation flag and school flag.

And then we visited PolyU Industrial Centre (IC) and we saw some test equipment for railway. Dr. SC Ho explained to us.

After that we visited smart home for elder use.

Dr. SC Ho also explained facilities in the AI and Robotic (AIR) laboratory.

Mr. Ma demonstrated how to give common to the Robotic for play Tai Chi and dancing.

Finally, we visited the drone racing area.

Drones and remote cars are showed.

We took a photo in the laboratory.

We also saw some tradition workshop machines.

The last laboratory we visited was 3D Printing.

Before lunch, we visited Design School.

Dr. Tung visited our classroom.

Lastly, we had lunch in staff western restaurant.

At the end, I led Dr. Tung to visit our library.

We took photo insider for memory. He told me that he would go to USA for his daughter in next year.

PolyU Info Day 2024

 PolyU Info Day 2024 was held on 12^th October 2024. Department of Computing booth located in Core A. I took a photo in front of the booth.

The booth photo was taken before the event.

In the Info Day, many student helpers who welcome visitors in the entry.

The large screen showed the schedule and events.

Info seminars of BSc (Hon) Scheme in Computing and AI were held in three timeslots today. I attended the morning session. Prof. Ken Yiu was speaker who introduced our program to participants. 

I met my student Mr. Dylan Haryoto and took a photo for memory.

During the seminar, Ken briefed the programme and curriculum. Year 1 is fundamental year that students learned fundamental subject and found their strength for selection of degree scheme (Computer Science or Enterprise Information System) in second year. 

Then he introduced SMILE approach that stands for Student-centered Model with Integrated Learning Elements. 

Finally, Ms. Julie Hui briefed the game for souvenir.

It included Capsule Toy (扭蛋).

The second Info seminar was led by Dr. Hong Va Leong and he briefed PolyU background in the beginning.

Details of BSc (Hons) in Computer Science core subjects were mentioned.

New approach for career preparation plus non-local experience such as internship or outbound exchange were introduced.
