Asian Network
for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2020 was held by Korean Society for Quality
Management (KSQM) in Seoul, Korea from 22nd to 23rd Oct
2020. The theme is "New Quality & New Trust: Measuring and Sharing of Quality Trust Index (QTI)". Because of the worldwide spread of
COVID-19, the congress was performed online through Zoom meeting. In Day 2, I firstly joined Parallel Session
12 – Quality measurement to meet Dr. Catherine YP Chan (HKQFD) who was the
session chair and we took photo with session speakers.
Dr. Catherine
Chan presented the topic named “The Two Kinds of Deployment in Quality Function
Deployment (QFD) for Implementing Quality Assurance”.
And then I
attended parallel session 16 – Process optimization that Mr. Too Meng Ken was
the chair and we took a group photo with speakers and guests.
The first
speaker was Mr. Deblin Chakraborty and his presentation entitled “A Time Series
Forecasting Engine to Propose Raw Material Buffer In a Division of TATA Steel”.
Firstly, he introduced their department
and four problem statements included material categorization, inventory volume,
risk associated with incorrect prediction of stock and shortlist SKUs
stock.
Then Mr.
Deblin Chakraborty briefed the details of modelling including Automated ARIMA
and L&I SKU’s Croston model both were forecasting model. He concluded there were ~70% average accuracy
that released unnecessary inventory.
The second
speaker was Ms. Fuyu Saito (Waseda University) and her topic was “An Analytical
Model of Response Interval Between Employees on Business Chat System Based on
Latent Class Model”. Beginning, she
compared the traditional method and people analytics about employees to manage
HR effectively.
The research
purpose aimed to modeling the relationship among Sender, Receiver and Reply
Time to represent the characteristics of communication between two
employees. Then she proposed
Probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis (PLSA) to analyze communication
characteristics between two employees.
The third
speaker was Mr. Sera Ito (Tokyo University of Science) and his topic entitled
“Quality of Care by Improving Guideline for Care Plan Creation”. Firstly, Mr. Ito said Japan was faced with
the challenge of providing health care to an increasing number of elderly
residents.
Mr. Sera Ito
study aimed to evaluate the type of care provided by care-related facilities to
support the living independence of care recipients with similar medical
conditions through analyzed time study data from survey. He then explained the five nursing care level
in different care activities.
The fourth
speaker was Ms. Ryoko Shimono (The University of Tokyo) and her topic named
“Verification of Individual Training System for Process Management in Blood
Collection”. She said blood drawing was
the most frequent within medical procedures but retaking was a situation
appropriate procedure was not succeeded for one time.
Finally, she
briefed the individualized training system and concluded that system had
possibility of effectiveness in reducing retaking rate and time for procedure.
The last
speaker in this session was Mr. Too Meng Ken (SQI) and his topic entitled
“Optimizing the Process of Sausage Manufacturing in Food Industry through Six
Sigma Methodology”. In the beginning,
Mr. Too briefed the manufacturing sausage process through 10 steps including
Thawing, Mincing, Bowl Chopping, Filling, Cooking, Showering, Chilling,
Peeling, Packing & Storing. One of
problems was Chicken Cheesy Sausage contributed the most reject as much as
39.2%.
Then Mr. Too
briefed how he employed six sigma methodology to improve the whole process
using SIPOC and DMAIC with DOE and FMEA.
Finally, the reject mass from 108.5kg down to 24kg (improved 78%).
Plenary Session II (New Quality & New Trust)
In the
beginning, Prof. Wan-Seon Shin (Chairman Elect, ANQ) introduced this session
and speakers.
The first
speaker was Dr. Youngjin Suh (VP, SAMSUNG Electronics) and his presentation
entitled “SAMSUNG Activities for Excellence in Quality”. Firstly, Dr. Suh briefed the SAMSUNG Quality
Vision that is “Perfection in Quality beyond your Imagination”.
Then he also
briefed the history of SAMSUNG quality management from 1978 to 2019, where
establishing innovation of emotional quality in 2016 and SMART quality
assurance in 2019.
