Dr. KS Chin and I were honor to be invited by Ir. Prof. Philip Chan (Postdoc Advisor, Chinese Academy of Governance (國家行政學院), Stanford Univerity, UC Berkeley & California State University Monterey Bay) to have lunch for discussing the coming ANQ Congress issue.

We appreciated Prof. Chan send his postdoc students to participate ANQ Congress since 2014.  Then I briefed the coming ANQ Congress 2019 scope and it would be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 21st to 24th October 2019.  The summary of each ANQ Congress and coming Congress information is recorded in my blog at https://qualityalchemist.blogspot.com/2019/01/anq-congress-2019-bangkok-thailand.html .

Then Prof. Philip Chan introduced his article issued in “Top China” Magazine to us. The article entitled “Based on the development trend of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to realize a new Silicon Valley Chinese dream” (立足粵港澳發展趨勢, 打造新硅谷中國夢).

CityU Distinguished Lecture on AI Enabled Personalized Theranotics

To enhance academic ambience and stimulate intellectual vitality, CityU invites world renowned scholars, high calibre figures of the community and social elites to deliver Distinguished Lectures on a wide range of interesting topics to the university community and members of the public.  I attended the lecture named “AI Enabled Personalized Theranotics” on 28th Jan 2019. I also had a chance to take a photo with Prof. Chih-Ming Ho for memory.

In the beginning, Prof. Jian Lu (VP (Research and Technology), CityU) introduced Prof. Chih-Ming Ho background and achievement to us.  Professor Chih-Ming Ho received Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University. He held the Ben Rich-Lockheed Martin Chair Professor until retired in 2016 and currently is a UCLA Distinguished Research Professor. He served as UCLA Associate Vice Chancellor for Research from 2001 to 2005.

Prof. Chih-Ming Ho (Distinguished Research Professor, University of California, Los Angeles; Member, US National Academy of Engineering; Academician, Academia Sinica) started his talk to share AI Enabled Personalized Theranostics. Firstly, he acknowledged his team in tens of collaborators’ laboratories included 50 PhD and 150 visiting scholars.  Then he explained that “Medicine is a Science of Uncertainty and an Art of Probability” and briefed the Father of Modern Medicine Sir William Osler (1849-1919).

Then Prof. Ho mentioned Theranostics (Therapeutics plus Diagnostics) could be considered as engineering term from input to output. One of challenges is that molecular mechanisms could not provide guidance of dose levels that related to toxicity management.  His study the question that what is the Transfer Function from input “Drug & Dose” to output “Efficacy / Toxicity”?

Lunch with Dr. Ronald Sequeira and Mrs. Sequeira

Minda and I were happy to have lunch with my MPhil supervisor Dr. Ronald Sequeira and Mrs. Flavia Sequeira in “ChiuChow Garden” restaurant in Shatin on 27th Jan 2019.  We ordered some Dim Sum (點心) and Chinese tea “Jasmine (香片)”  both are my supervisor favor.

Dr. Cathy Lee is my junior research classmate and she had dinner with Dr. Ronald Sequeira and Mrs. Sequeira on last Friday night that I was not available to join.  Our meeting could be traced to four years ago.

We hope my teacher and his wife healthy and happy life all the time in india.  I recorded down our meeting and article related to Dr. Ronald Sequeira, as well as, BCH Dept. (Now is CHEM Dept.) in reference.

Dinner with Dr. Aaron Chan and Dr. Yau Pak Man (Post-Doctorate Friends)

I was honor to be invited by Dr. Aaron Chan and Dr. Yau Pak Man (South China Chapter Chairman, IpostDocA) to have dinner for celebrating Dr. Aaron Chan and Dr. QIU Ning Ning passed the Post-Doc assessment.

We had dinner in BLT Steak in Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui.  The environment is very good and we saw the night scene in Victoria Harbor.

We had a good food and each steak had indicator to identify the cooking level.

After that we had discussed Dr. Aaron Chan’s paper named “Factors affect to Customer Loyalty in Logistics Industry” with red wine.  Dr. Chan had two hypotheses using Regression Model on Customer Loyalty of repeating use with current logistic service provider (CL1) and introducing current logistic service provider to others (CL2).  He said he performed both Regression Model and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) but he finally selected Regression Model.  Because SEM is to confirm a research study design and to reduce the relationships to visual representations rather than to explore or explain a phenomenon.  Dr. Yau Pak Man also shared his study journey.

Finally, I need to thank Dr. Aaron Chan and Dr. Yau Pak Man for this fruitful discussion and dinner, as well as, Dr. QIU Ning Ning’s gift.  Since Dr. Qiu is busy for her family business before CNY, we hope to meet her in next time that may be in Hong Kong or China.

Dinner with Ms. Quanysheva Gainel (Friend in Kazakhstan)

We were happy to hear Gainel to visit Hong Kong and we booked a stream seafood restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui.  We knew Gainel when we joined ANQ Congress 2018 and organizer arranged local tour for visitor.  Gainel is our tour leader.  She come together with her friend Danny (Malaysia) who is pilot in Hong Kong Airline.  We also invited our good friend Ms. Carman Mok together.

It is golden opportunity for us to have special dinner together and connected Kazakhstan and Hong Kong tourism industry.  Carman operated travel company named “Candy Travel” in Hong Kong and Gainel also operated travel company named “GQ Travel” in Kazakhstan.  Hopefully, they would have cooperation in future so that more tours to Kazakhstan would provide for Hong Kong people, and vice versa.

The photo taken during visit to Myanmar in Nov 2018 that Carman is our tour leader.

Metrology Symposium 2019 (The New SI for a Smarter World)

The Government Laboratory (GL), Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC), Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) and Standards and Calibration Laboratory of Innovation and Technology Commission (SCL) jointly organized the Metrology Symposium 2019 on 11th Jan 2019.  The theme is “The New SI for a Smarter World”.  Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) was one of supporting organizations. On May 20, 2019, the implementation of the revised International System of Units (SI) would start.  Four of the seven SI base units namely kilogram, ampere, kelvin and mole would be redefined based on the fundamental constants, which remove the current limitations imposed by the use of artefact standards.  Before the seminar, I met Ms. Brenda Lam (SCL) and we took a photo for memory.

In the entry of venue, silicon sphere was set for the new definition of mass use.
