The First Lecture of SYE2066 in CityUHK (Dongguan)

The City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) has operated for a year and two campuses used the same academic system. Our department provided the course for Intelligent manufacturing engineering named SYE2066 “Professional Engineering Practice” that is compulsory course for HKIE accredited programme. The first lecture was held on 6^th Sep 2025.

We went to Dongguan from CityUHK to Dongguan campus. Prof. YC Chau, Prof. Ron Kwok, Prof. Alan Chan, Prof. Lorry Rui Luo and I.

Firstly, Prof. Ron Kwok led us to go to Admission Reception Center to use our staff card.

We met Ms. Li Li (李丽) and she led us to get the staff card and went to staff office.

Prof. YC Chau, Prof. Lorry Luo and I seat together in room 0542.

Inside the staff room.

And then YC and I went to CityU(DG) Lodge for expert.

We got the access card.

It is large apartment and three rooms per one person!

After that YC and I went to student canteen for lunch.

The price is based on the weight of the food, and rice can be added for free.

And then I created ICBC bank account inside the campus. YC and I have K coffee for tea time.

Finally, we visited the library.

It is creative design inside the library.

YC and I took a photo for memory.

In the Friday night, we had dinner in the student canteen.

On Saturday morning, we went to the student canteen again.

We had Chinese style breakfast.

After that we prepared for the first lecture of SYE2066.

In the campus, all attendance and access used facial recognition. 

Students are coming in the morning class.

Firstly Prof. YC Chau briefed his experience in manufacturing industry.

Then I shared my experience and connect those dots for student reference.

Each student required for 1 min self-introduction.

After we briefed the whole course structure and assessment requirement. Prof. YC Chau introduced the seven-core generic manufacturing management tools.

We finished the first lecture and had lunch.

When we went to the booked shuttle, we saw the physical examination for new students.

Visit to HKPMAC for starting Students' Capstone Project

On 4 Sep, I lead my three COMP students and invited my friend Mr. Matthew Tsui (Managing Director, App2One Limited) to visit Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) under Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) for starting students’ Capstone Project entitled “Development of Laboratory Information System (LIMS) for operation performance enhancement”.

Firstly, Dr. Kathy Fu (Lab Manager, HKPMAC) explained the background and normal operation flow to students.

Inside the laboratory, different tests related to gold were introduced.

After that Kathy briefed the existing daily operation data input and extraction for reporting.

Finally, Mr. Brian Fung (CEO, HKGX) joined us. I presented the invitation letter of industrial advisor to Brian and Kathy and then we took a group photo.

Afterwards, Kathy led everyone to visit the Hong Kong Gold Exchange and conducted a simulated exchange process. I selfie with Matthew.

The participants simulated the old practice of gold exchange.

They had process agenda.

Lastly, we took a photo for memory.

After the visit, Matthew and I went to PolyU to have lunch with Dr. Rocky Lam. I invited them to give guest lecture in my e-Business class. During the lunch, we also meet Prof. Allen AU and took a photo together.

Visit to Vitargent Laboratory for starting COMP Student’s Capstone Project

I lead my student Mr. AU YEUNG Tsz Pui to visit the Vitargent’s laboratory on 2 Sep 2025. It is related to his capstone project named “AI-powered system to automate the detection of developmental defects in zebrafish embryos”. We would like to use machine learning to identify photos of fish embryos after toxicity testing. When arrived, we took a photo in front of the company. 

Then Dr. Xueping Chen introduced their laboratory daily operation.

And she showed and explained some image results.

Her staff demonstrated the testing and counting the results.

Finally, we took a group photo inside the laboratory.

After that Minda and I invited Dr. Xueping Chen to have lunch together.
