Remember Prof. Mohamed Zairi, Academician of International Academy for Quality (IAQ)

A very sad news received from Prof. Pedro Saraiva that Prof. Mohamed Zairi passed away on 20^th Oct 2021 in Dubai, after a very long fight against Covid-19 related health problems.  We, Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) expressed hearty condolences to Prof. Mohamed Zairi’s family, friends and colleagues. We first recognized in the 6th National Quality Conference 2017 in Dammam, Saudi Arabia and the we met in ANQ Congress 2018 Almaty, Kazakhstan on 20^th Sep 2018 and IAQ General Meeting & QiETT Symposium on 21^st Sep 2018. I still remember his song and dance during Gala Dinner after ANQ Congress 2018.  Some memorable event photos showed as follows:

Prof. Zairi is the first keynote speaker in ANQ Congress 2018 and his presentation topic entitled “Defining the Role of Quality in an Uncertain Future: The Disruptive Thinking of Quality 4.0”. During his talk, he introduced his first 2 books in the world related to Quality 4.0.

Prof. Zairi introduced the six principles of Quality 4.0 that I usually quoted for teaching my students.

1. Making Quality the License to Manage the Organization

2. Redefining Quality to ensure the organization remains Relevant

3. Ensuring that Quality Orientation is the Driver of Organization Excellence

4. Developing Transformational and Disruptive Capability

5. Building Excellence Maturity through Transformation based Performance Impact

6. Sustaining the Path of Excellence by Shaping the Future through Disruptive

Then we went to the al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Kazakhstan for Quality in Education Think Tank (QiETT) Symposium.

Prof. Mohamed Zairi’s topic named “The Future of Higher Education: The Disruptive Necessity for Ensuring Survival and Sustainability”.  He concluded that the students of tomorrow will need to be prepared for a higher calling. This higher calling will be to pre-empt crises before they occur, anticipate disasters before they happen, and solve some of mankind's greatest problems, starting with the problem of our own ignorance.

After the symposium, we had a break to enjoy nice afternoon tea.

During Gala dinner, we sing and dance with Prof. Zairi together. Let’s remember this joyful time.
