Dear ANQ Friends,
We were very surprised to hear of the sudden passing of Dr. Takeshi Kaneko.
After his passing, his wife told us that he had been experiencing breathing difficulties from time to time since the beginning of September, and as a result of a thorough examination, he was diagnosed as interstitial pneumonia and was hospitalized on September 16. Even after his hospitalization, he was superficially in good health. However, since the beginning of October, he sometimes had difficulty in breathing. He had been taking measures according to the doctor's diagnosis on the spot, and he had been in a lull. However, on October 9, he suddenly began to have difficulty in breathing and passed away shortly after, with his wife watching over him.
Dr. Takeshi Kaneko was involved in the ANQ before the establishment of ANQ. On July 27, 2002, we had the preparatory meeting for the establishment of an Asian organization for quality in Tokyo. At that time, e-mail and home pages were just beginning to become commonplace in the world. Takeshi-san was an IT expert who voluntarily took on the responsibility of setting up the ANQ website. I remember I was very relieved to find Takeshi to actually work with his hands and enthusiasm at our meeting room.
The meeting on the day started with a call for the establishment of an Asian Quality Organization (AQO) with KSQM, CSQ, JSQC, and CAQ as founding organizations to invite ISQ, HKSQ, and SQAT and the 7 organizations started decided to establish the AQO with the name of Asian Network for Quality (ANQ). So, in order to immediately launch the website, it was necessary to decide on a URL. Dr. Kaneko immediately did a search for a URL for our website. Our first choice was anq, but that was already registered. He gave us a list of several unregistered alternatives around anq, and based on that, we came up with current URL:
anforq.org
was decided upon, has been used until today, and will continue to be used in the future. As Dr. Tomomichi Suzuki mentioned, Dr. Kaneko attended most of ANQ Congresses including the 0th Tokyo in November, 2002 to the congress in Singapore in 2021. He made so many presentations at many conferences, both independently and co-authored with his graduate students under his guidance.
In the early days of the ANQ Congresses, there occurred frequent technical problems about the connection between presenters’ PC and LCD projectors of the conference room. In many presentation rooms, Dr. Kaneko supported to solve these technical issues.
As the Honorary Chairperson of ANQ on behalf of ANQ, let me express our deepest gratitude to Dr. Takeshi Kaneko for his many years of enthusiastic and kind support for ANQ.
From the following photo, you may recall that Takeshi's wife is Mrs. Yuko Abe Kaneko, who is the Secretary of the JSQC Secretariat.
Some of you may remember her just as Yuko or Ms. Yuko Abe. Takeshi participated in many ANQ Congresses together with Yuko.
The above snap was trimmed from the photo taken from the album of Dr. Lotto Lai.
Let me share the following words that Yuko mentioned as her appreciation to Takeshi in her mourner's greeting because it was touching me.
"Takeshi was a very good listener and listened to my rambling stories and gave me advice. It helped me a lot."
I have no words to comfort Yuko when I think of her grief at the loss of her beloved husband.
I would like to offer my deepest condolences and prayers for the repose of her soul.
Best regards
Dr. Noriaki Kano
Honorary Chairperson, ANQ
