CityU EngD Society AGM Seminar and Dinner

The CityU Engineering Doctorate (EngD) Society in the Department of Advanced Design and Systems Engineering (ADSE) was organized the AGM Seminar, Annual Meeting and Dinner on 15^th July 2022. In the beginning, we took a group photo online and offline with EngD Cohorts.

My book named “Extenics: The logic of Innovation” as a gift for onsite participants for seminar and dinner.

In the beginning, Dr. Herbert Yeung (Immediate Past Chairman, EngD Society) gave welcome and opening speech.

And then he introduced New Engineering Contract (NEC) course named “ECC Project Manager Accreditation Hong Kong” and he said the old practice used General Construction Contractor (GCC). Herbert would like to share more after he finished the study.

The first speaker was Dr. TW Liu and his topic named “Using Intellectual Property Information for Inspiring Creativity”.  He introduced a simple model of creativity with three components: Expertise, Creative Thinking Skill and Task Motivation.

The further elaboration of those three components that influencing creativity were discussed.  Dr. Liu briefed some cases such as FinTech Week HACKATHON (within 36hr), FINSPIRE Hackathon, and IPHatch Innovation Program, etc.

After that Dr. Liu mentioned the extended model of Creativity into educational environment such as CityU course named “Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship” which was able to inspire creativity using IP information.

Finally, he concluded that CityU TECH 300 is a comprehensive model of creativity that timeline for participants from 36hr competition to one course module duration (13 weeks) and then four years in university life as well as lifetime alumni. Participation included student, researcher, teacher, alumni and tech company. The environment adopted open innovation in different alumni network.

Dr. Rocky Lam was the second speaker and his topic entitled “Metaverse Business Opportunity”. Firstly, he mentioned everything can be in metaverse such as entertainment, education (Metaversity), retail, robotic process automation and smart city.

Then he briefed the VR and AR technology combined to be a digital twin in virtual campus. HKUMed video was an example.

After that the MetaCampus System Architecture was introduced that showed how to build Digital Twin between physical campus and virtual campus.

Finally, Dr. Rocky Lam discussed the opportunities of NFT included its features and new business model for repackaging the current product, etc.

Dr. Lotto Lai was the last speaker and his topic was “Maturity Model and Assessment Method of Chinese Intelligent Manufacturing Capability”. Firstly, I briefed Hong Kong reindustrialization policy since 2016.

Then the standard development milestone of Chinese Intelligent Manufacturing Capability was briefed from 2015 to 2020.

And then I introduced the maturity model which employed in Hong Kong based on Frauhofer IPT in Germany.

After that, the intelligent manufacturing capability maturity model based on GB/T 39116:2020 and its maturity assessment method based on GB/T 39117:2020 were briefed and discussed. The PTRM Model composition was explained and PTRM stand for Personnel, Technology, Resource and Manufacturing.

Finally, the China intelligent manufacturing evaluation public service platform was introduced and shared. I asked my friend who had company in mainland China to enter the platform for studying their evaluation questionnaire design.

After the AGM Seminar, we performed the annual meeting.  Dr. Herbert Yeung briefed the past activities and new achievement of forming CityU EngD Society company limited by guarantee. Then I on behalf of Dr. Rocky Lam to present the financial issues. We decided to use new domain and website hosting. Raymond suggested to the Society to be key supporting organization in CityU for HK TECH 300 and Ray would connect with different university in mainland for cooperation.

Finished AGM, we went to City Chinese Restaurant for dinner.
