CityU ADSE Seminar – People-oriented Intelligent Manufacturing System with Talent Cultivation

 The CityU Distinguished ADSE Seminar named “People-oriented Intelligent Manufacturing System with Talent Cultivation” was organized by the Department of Advanced Design and Systems Engineering on 7^th Jun 2021.  This talk invited Dr. Jacob Chen (Vice Chairman, Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group; Founding President, Foxcoon University (Corporate University of Foxconn)) as guest speaker and he would share Foxconn’s digital transformation and the framework of intelligent manufacturing system.

In the beginning, Dr. Jacob Chen briefed the background of Hon Hai Research Institute and mentioned the MOU signed with City University of Hong Kong yesterday.  The MOU is focused on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, information security, 5G, etc.

Then Dr. Chen briefed the Jacob’s view on people-oriented philosophy that included respect people, optimization of human performance and harmonious partnership between human and technology.

He employed the Tai Chi (太極) to explain the changing and unchanging philosophy on the core corporate value and business.

And the Dr. Chen stated the 9 milestones of Foxconn Business / Operation Innovation from resources integration to value integration using IDM (Integration Design Manufacturing), IIDM (Innovation Integration Design Manufacture) and IIDMSM (Innovation Integration Design Manufacture + Sales & Marketing).

After that the Foxconn Digital & New Industries Transformation was discussed from Foxconn 1.0 (current situation optimization) to Foxconn 3.0 (new industries transformation).

He also demonstrated their lighthouse factory in Shenzhen and Foxconn Lighthous Readiness Assessment System in which separated into three building blocks and they were System Intelligence, Smart Technology Application and Intelligent Management and Organization.

Dr. Jacob Chen also introduced his presentation on the 9^th Annual Washington State Lean Transformation Conference in 2020 that from Lean Transformation to Digital Transformation.

Finally, 4P model for Intelligent Manufacturing System training was discussed from Principle-based Learning to Practice-based Learning, and then to Project-based Learning, finally to Professional-based Learning.

Intelligent Manufacturing Technology Development Framework was also demonstrated that almost integrated all known system in manufacturing.

Lastly, Four Modernization Talent Cultiveion and Certification System model was briefed that covered Lean IE, Automation, Digitalization and Intelligentization.

Q&A

A PhD student asked how to employed project based learning and Dr. Chen said there are three ways to help below.

1. You need to receive a strong support by the big boss
2. You need to the project to be considered the continuation.
3. You need to demonstrate the effectiveness.

l  Right project to operate (Define the problem in urgent and important; resource allocate to this project; )

l  Do it right.
