HKSQ Quality of Life Series: Neck and Shoulder Pain Prevention Seminar

Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) launched a series of seminars focused on Quality of Life. It is the first time we co-organized the seminar named “Neck and Shoulder Pain Prevention Seminar (都市人頸肩痛的預防與自我手法舒緩介紹講座)”with Hong Kong Academy of Chinese Medicine (HKACM) on 7 Nov 2014. In the beginning, I introduced Prof. Sarah Hui (許少珍) (Founding President, HKACM) and Ms. Huang Hai Ping (黃海萍) (Asso. Professor, HKACM) to our members.


Prof. Hui was the first guest speaker and she introduced the service of Hong Kong Academy of Chinese Medicine (HKACM) which was established since 2003, and then the development history of Chinese Medicine and Doctor Courses were mentioned.


Ms. Huang Hai Ping was the second guest speaker and her topic was “Neck and Shoulder Pain Prevention and Soothing Massage Manipulation”. Firstly, she discussed the reasons of Neck and Shoulder Pain included long time typing in front of computer, wrong posture, high working pressure, late sleep, no sport and injury.


The preventive actions are focused on right posture and time control for different work with specific posture (< 1hour), as well as, suitable exercise. Three Chinese Traditional Kung Fu were mentioned and they were八段錦、筋經、五禽戲.


After that Ms. Huang introduced Chinese traditional music relaxation method to us.


The last part was practical exercise to relax the neck and shoulder muscles. Every participants had tried the different postures.



Before end of the seminar, I invited some friends from HKSQ for neck health inspection by Ms. Huang.


I represented HKSQ to present a souvenir to Prof. Hui and Ms. Huang.



We had a dinner with guest speakers at night.
