CMS1000 Senior Students & Graduates Experience Sharing

My two capstone project students Mr. Terrence XU and Mr. Winston Ng were invited to share their experience on capstone project and first career for the 1st year students in the course CMS1000 - Computer and Mathematical Sciences Professionals in Society under Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FCMS) on 13th Oct 2026. Dr. Ryo also invited his senior students to share the outbound study and internship. In the beginning, I took a selfie with Terrence and Winston. 


Ms. Yang Beili was the first speaker and she shared her exchange journey to Korea.


She shared how to apply Global Engagement Office (GEO) Scholarship for Student Exchange and some tips before the trip start. 


The second speaker was Ms. Qlyuan Yang and she shared internship about AI across finance (e.g. J.P. Morgan, BlackRock and Jump Trading).


And then she shared some technology preparation such as LeetCode + a side project on GitHub.


The third and fourth speakers were Mr. Winston Ng and Mr. Terrence XU. They had just graduated and employed as IT Graduate Trainee – Assistant Smart Construction Engineer and Full-stack Web Engineer, respectively. 


Firstly, they shared the capstone project and explained its pain point.


Terrence demonstrated his work on computer vision for teaching a robot to see and feel.


Winston showed his simulation using digital twin technique for robotic arm.


And then he shared some working environment photos to us.


Finally, Terrence shared three important points that were to build a personal website, don’t be a “blank paper”, and plan your 4 years in PolyU.


After sharing by students, we presented souvenirs and took a group photo.


Tonight’s guest speaker was Dr. Walter Fung and his topic named “Innovation and Control Disciplines of Technologies”.


He quoted many recently news and situation we faced.


And discussed with students.


Lastly, we took a group photo with Dr. Walter Fung for memory.
