HKSQ Study Mission for Industry 4.0 – Day 2: Visit to FineTek Group & King Design Industrial

The study mission named “Quality Professionals preparing for Industry 4.0” was organized by Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ), supported by ASQ and Hong Kong Quality Function Development Association (HKQFDA) from 16 to 20 November 2016.  In day 2, Chinese Society for Quality (CSQ) arranged to visit FineTeck Group and King Design Industrial on 17 Nov 2016. Mr. Weng (翁辰修), Mr. Liu Li Tsung (劉黎宗) and Mr. Mark Yang (楊鍚珪) led us to go to the destination.  We took a photo in the bus.

Mr. Weng (翁辰修) was our guide to introduce the scene to us.

We arrived the FineTek and took a group photo in front of the company brand with Dr. Kelvin Cheng (鄭兆凱) (VP, FineTek Group) (The 1st row and Right 2nd)

I took a photo with all FineTek representatives for memory.

(Left: Ms. Nancy Hsu (許碧雲) (Special Assistant of Managing Director & Spokesperson), Dr. Kelvin Cheng (鄭兆凱), I, Mr. Jeremy Chang (張哲銘) (Quality Center / Head of Laboratory) and Dr. Catherine Chan (HKQFDA))

In the beginning, Ms. Nancy Hsu (許碧雲) (Special Assistant of Managing Director & Spokesperson) gave a welcome speech and introduced FineTek Group to us.

Then Dr. Kelvin Cheng (鄭兆凱) gave us a talk named “The basic of Industry 4.0: From Lead Management II to the strategical development mapping”.  His talk content included company introduction, the history of Industry 4.0, Quality cycle of Industry 4.0 and its strategical mapping.

The company development separated into 5 periods that were Fundamental (1979-2002), Growth (2003-2008), Transformation (2009-2011) – achieved National Quality Award, Innovation Period (2012-2014) and Leading Period (2015-2017). The following diagram demonstrated different product and technology in each period.

Dr. Kelvin Cheng briefed their Quality System Milestone from IQC fall > 10% to < 1% after implemented TQM, and then achieved 5 sigma in 2014.  They achieved new ISO 9001:2015 and other standards in 2015.

He also mentioned FineTek R&D SB3T Architecture that was Scenario, Business, Benefit, Behavior and Technology Planning.  They employed technology innovation to create value for customer.  FineTek cooperated with different universities for innovation since 2008.  Using Hoshin Management (Policy) from “Value to Customer” changed to “Value of Customer”.

Then he analyzed their Lean Level based on JIT (Level 1 to 2), minimum of staff (Level 3) and efficiency working method (Level 2).

After that Dr. Cheng mentioned the trend of Quality Transformation in Post Industry 4.0 that included Reliability, CPS integration, Process Quality and Collaboration Design.

At the end, Dr. Cheng introduced the Industry 4.0 Strategy Map and described their position in this map.

Then we visited their factory and facilities.

Wireless testing (EMC related)

Reliability Laboratory

Warehouse for parts

U cell for assembly (Lean)

Before end of the visit, we met Mr. Ching Teh Wu (吳清德) (President, FineTek Co., Ltd.) and we took a group photo again.  Then we had lunch with Mr. Ching.

After the lunch, our chairman presented HKSQ flag and the 30th anniversary book to Mr. Wu and Dr. Kelvin Cheng (鄭兆凱).

The second company was King Design and their products included photovoltaic (PV), vibration and reliability testing equipment.

Dr. Dirac Liao (廖德銘) (VP, Browave Corporation (波若威科技); CSQ) led us into the office.  He introduced King Design’s Patents which posted in the wall.

Mr. Li Yunxiong (李允椉) (Chairman, King Design) introduced their achievement and got the Golden Award.

Then Mr. Li introduced his company’s development and trend analysis.  King Design established in 1983 and focused on vibration equipment for 33 years.  Recently, they developed solar light and testing equipment.  The company values were “Commit to Innovation Research”, “Product Quality”, “Enhance Technology Capability” and “Professional Service”.

The following diagram showed the major service projects in King Design including Equipment and Facilities, Calibration and Maintenance, Testing Laboratory, Improvement Solution, as well as, Education and Training.

He demonstrated some equipment such as the six dimension accelerating vibrator.

Then the stable sunlight simulator was also demonstrated.  Its wavelength was very closed to the real sunlight and no need for filter (not like Xenon Light and LED spectrum)

The product used stable sunlight simulator with scientific treatment for spectrum.  We found that the smell of pea was much stronger than the traditional one.  Peter took a photo with Mr. Li for memory on this smell experiment.

Mr. Peter Fung represented HKSQ to present the souvenir to Mr. Li and took a photo with CSQ President together.

We took a group photo with many Patent certificates in the office for memory.

Finally, we visit his laboratory and the demonstrated vibrator was made from USA which performance was found much weaker that his equipment!

One of applications was for first aid and our chairman tried it.

At the end, we appreciated CSQ to arrange these two technical visits and we learnt much on it.

At night, we appreciated Prof. Ching-Chow Yang (楊錦洲) and Prof. Dennis Tien (田墨忠) arranged a local special food for this gathering.
