InnoCarnival & InnoTalks 2014

InnoCarnival 2014 theme named "Technology for a Better Living" in three dimensions included Intelligent Living, Quality Living and Green Living. The InnoCarnival featured more than 800 activities such as large-scale exhibitions, an electric vehicle exhibition, workshops, seminars, science competitions guided tours, and an exhilarating entertainment showed for members of the public to gain hands-on and fun filled experience of the convenience and fun brought by innovation and technology to daily life.

I attended one of the InnoTalks named “An Overview of Systematic Innovation” which organized by Institute of Systematic Innovation, Hong Kong (ISIHK) and presented by Mr. Simon Tong (Committee member of ISIHK and Founder of Smartway Management Technology Limited) on 2 Nov 2014 and visited different Exhibition sites included different universities, education associations, public organizations, government departments. We took a photo before the seminar start.

In the beginning of InnoTalk, Simon briefed what is Innovation and quoted “Apple” as one of examples. He said innovation had three key elements included New Function, New Value and Higher Effectiveness. Then he raised two questions that one was for engineer to design airplane’s engine to enhance loading and the other was for hotel manager to enhance customer experience.

Before discussed those questions, Simon introduced Mr. Darrell Mann who is his teacher of systematic innovation. Then he also mentioned the innovation tool named TRIZ in which had 39 engineering parameters and 40 innovative principles.

Back to the first question, it was found the contradiction that the design of engine to be higher loading with less size. Using TRIZ, it found 4 related innovative principles as the direction of product development.

For the second question, Simon introduced the other innovation tools named technology trend. For object, the trend would be from Solid, to Segmented Solid, to Particulate Solid, to Fluid, to Segmented Fluid, to Gas, to Plasma and finally to Field. For flexibility, the trend would be from Mono System, to Jointed System, to Fully Flexible, to Fluid and finally to Field Based System. Using similar trend for customer expectation in tourism industry, the following diagram showed from Commodity, to Product, to Service, to Experience and last to Transformation.

Minda and I took a photo with Simon and Phyllis for memory.

After the seminar, we took a photo in front of ISIHK station.

There were some games for participants in Testing & Certification Classroom which organized by Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) and Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS).

I also visit the City University of Hong Kong (CityU)

I tried the game related to environmental protection which was designed by CityU students.
