PolyU Distinguished Seminar on DS&AI - Embodied AI and Robotics

PolyU Distinguished Seminar on Data Science & AI entitled “Embodied Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Digital Economy and National Healthcare” organized by Department of Computing, PolyU on 13th Sep 2024. Prof. Li introduced the guest speaker Prof. Kai Hwang in the beginning.

Prof. Kai Hwang firstly briefed the new era of digital world and technologies including IoT, AI, Blockchain, Cloud, Data, Edge and 5G/6G. Those technologies separated into three areas and they were Networking, Intelligentization and Digitization.

Then Prof. Hwang mentioned recent advances in AI. “Large AI models got very expensive to deploy including large data centers and green energy supplies” he said. And then he discussed the AI index from Stanford university. Pros and Cons of AI advances also discussed.

After that four generations of language AI models were introduced including Statistical LM, Neural LM, Pre-trained LM and LLM (ChatGPT).

In addition, Prof. Hwang briefed how the ChatGPT works and LLM development stages. Three most popular Large Language Models (LLM) in the USA that OpenAI (GPT Family), Meta (LLaMA1/2 Family) and Google (PalM Family) were introduced.
