Quality Improvement and Experience Sharing Convention 2017/18

I was honor to be invited by Mr. Albert Lo (System & Quality Development Manager, CLP) to attend the Quality Improvement and Experience Sharing Convention (QIESC) 2017-2018 on 3rd Jan 2018.  The first QIESC was instituted in 1997 by 6 participating organizations.  With strong support from other organizations, the Convention has become an annual major quality event with participating organizations taking turns to host.  I signed the poster when I arrived.

I met Ms. Grace Teng (Senior Quality Management Manager, Vitasoy International Holdings Ltd.) and took a photo together.


QIESC 2017/18 Opening Ceremony


In the beginning, Mr. Terence Leung (Deputy Chairman and Managing Director, Synergis Holdings Limited) gave an opening speech.  He briefed the aims of QIESC that sharing and learning together to reach a win-win situation among businesses so as to achieve continual improvement.


Each organizations assigned representatives as judges for QIESC 2017/18.  


The first team was from CLP Power and their topic presented was “Automatic Power Restoration System for Overhead Line”.  Superman and Batman fight each other that affected the electricity supply!  


Wonder woman come to stop them but she used too large power that broken the cables.  


Finally, they employed Automatic Power Restoration System to restore the electricity within short period of time so as to enhance the supply reliability and power quality of electricity to their customer.


The second team was from Kum Shing Group and their project named “Safety Observation App”.  They employed fishbone diagram to identify the root cause of safety problems.


The teams of Project Management, System Assurance and Information Technology joined hands and developed a mobile application to enhance the efficiency of safety observation and to improve productivity.  


The third team was from Vitasoy International Holdings Limited and their title of competition named “The Ineloquent Machine”.  In the beginning, a statement told us that every people had a story of puppy love.


Firstly a boy and a girl had not purchased drink to appreciate each other because of machine problem and supply chain problem.  The improvement leader discussed with both machine and used wireless devices to detect their status and stock so as to solve their problems.  


Finally, that boy and girl met again and joined together successfully.


The fourth team was from New World Development Company Limited and their project was “Dirty Bucket”.  Dirty Bucket is an engineered steel tank for sewage collection in construction site.  


They overcame the problem through specific design features including photo-catalytic deodorizer, build-in pipework, safety guardrails, cathodic protection system and level indicator, etc.


During the tea break, I took a photo about the history of the QIESC since 1998.


The fifth team was from Towngas and their presentation topic was “Enhance Gas Service Riser Inspection”.  Firstly, they found that some situation was not able to use drone for inspection.  


Then they self-developed a Riser Inspector to increase the success rate of gas riser inspection.  


The sixth team was from MTR Corporation and their project title was “Improve the efficiency of baggage handling (Baggage Easy)”.  The IT engineer was hated by his girlfriend because she failed the baggage speed competition of poor system.  


Then he developed a luggage storage mobile application (e.g. wifi network and computer equipment) to enhance the customer experience by applying new technologies in daily operations.  


The seventh team was from Airport Authority Hong Kong and their presentation topic named “Enhancement of Airbridge Docking Guiding Lines at HKIA”.  They met the big problem that there were too many different airbridge dock guiding lines.


Then Xuanzang (唐三藏) taught them TVB named Tell, Value and Brainstorm.  Finally, they standardized and simplified the airbridge dock guiding lines at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to enhance operational efficiency and bringing greater convenience and better services to passengers.  


The last team was from Synergis Holdings Limited and their project was “Interactive Communication Platforms – Synergis Community App & Synergis Internal Communication App (SICA)”.  


App & SICA provided round-the-clock information update and communication platforms for its customers and employees.


All team took a group photo with Mr. William Yeung (Managing Director (Property Services), Synergis Holdings Limited).


And then was award ceremony session.  The awardees were showed as follows:
i)                    最佳創意大獎   (New World) (Best creative award) 


ii)                    最佳持續發展意念大獎 (Synergis) (Best sustainable development concept award) 


iii)                    最佳創見價值大獎 (Towngas) (Best creative value award)


iv)                    最具推廣意念大獎 (Vitasoy) (Best promotional ideas award) 


v)                    最佳品管工具演繹大獎 (MTR) (Best quality tool deduction award) 


vi)                    最佳提案演繹大獎 (CLP) (Best proposal deduction award) 


vii)                    最喜愛角色演繹大獎 (Kum Shing) (Favorite character interpretation award)


vii)                    最喜愛角色演繹大獎 (AAHK - Xuanzang(Favorite character interpretation award) 


viii)                    我最喜愛發佈大獎 (Synergis) (One man one vote elected!) 
                         (My favorite promulgation award) 

At the end, Mr. William Yeung (Managing Director (Property Services), Synergis Holdings Limited) gave a closing speech.  He said Quality Improvement and Experience Sharing Convention (QIESC) had two characteristics.
i)                    Cross-discipline benchmarking
ii)                  Continual improvement in daily work
Their purpose was to create the culture of excellence.
