CityU CSE Discovery and Innovation Gala 2017

I was honor to be invited to join the CSE Discovery and Innovation Gala 2017 organized by the Cooperative Education Centre, College of Science and Engineering (CSE) of CityU on 21 Jun 2017.  The gala would be held from 21 to 22 Jun 2017 and it aimed to showcase CityU research capability to the industrial community, and to open up further opportunities for collaborations, industrial investments or donations, bringing benefit to the University.  The Gala of this year is included in the 20th Anniversary celebration programme of the HKSAR.

During the cocktail, I met the honour guest Dr. David Chung who is EngD cohort and Dr. Winnie S.M. Tang (Founder and Chairman, esri).  I told her I used her GIS software in PolyU long time ago.

I also met my first boss Mr. Dominic Lam (CEO, CMATCL) (Left 2), my degree final year project supervisor Prof Lawrence Wu (Professor, AP Dept., CityU) (Left 3) and my good research friend Prof. Michael Lam (Professor, BCH Dept., CityU) (Left 1).

In the beginning, Prof. Way Kuo (President, CityU) gave a welcome speech.  He told us a good new that our US Patent is number one in Hong Kong.  CityU students were continuously innovated and one of projects was design a wheelchair used on regular road and car.  Finally, he said today is Summer solstice and enjoy it.

The Gala guest was Dr. David Chung (Under Secretary for Innovation and Technology, ITB, HKSAR) and he said government focused and encouraged STEM education for future economy.  He added CE aimed to enhance knowledge transfer through Midstream Research Programme for Universities (MRP) from research project to commercial use.  Moreover, they would like to extend the Technology Start-up Support Scheme for Universities (TSSSU) program to encourage entrepreneurship.

The last speaker was Prof. Hong Yan (Dean, College of Science and Engineering, CityU) and he briefed last year research achievement in the college.  He quoted one case that Huawei and CityU set up a Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA) to offer training on cloud computing, networking and telecommunications in 2015.

President and Dean presented a souvenir to Dr. David Chung.

After that we had buffet lunch. I met Dr. Samson Tam (Chairman, HKIUR) and my EngD cohort Dr. Samuel Fung. We took a photo with David together for memory.

I also took a photo with Prof. Way Kuo.

After that we visited different research booths.  Dominic interested in the measurement of lead in drinking water.

Prof. Paul Lam and Dr. YW Lam discussed the research of natural antibiotics from fish blood.

When I left, I saw the exhibition location in the 4/F arranged by students.

Prof. Lam and Prof. Hong Yan guided Dr. David Chung to understand their students’ research achievement.

As CityU alumni, I always supported CityU activities and HKSTP Incubation Program was one of important partners in CityU Innopreneurship Ecosystem.
