Extension Innovation Method Trainer Course Level 3 - Part 1

The Extension Innovation Method training course for Trainer Level 3 – Part 1 (可拓創新培訓師培訓班三級第一節) was organized by Extenics Company (可拓學公司) in Guangzhou from 12 to 14 May 2017 (The second part will be held from 26 to 28 May 2017).  Minda and I had joined the training again.  We took a group photo for memory.

Day 1 (12 May 2017) (Friday)
In the beginning, Prof. Cai Wen (蔡文) gave a welcome speech and briefing the course structure that Level 1 to Level 3 are fundamental element and Four Steps of Extensive Innovation (可拓創新四步法), as well as, First, Second and Third innovation methods (第一, 第二和第三創造法). Then he started to explain the remaining subjects included Opening-up (分合鏈) and Conjugate Analysis (共軛分析)


Minda and I tried to do the exercise using Opening-up (分合鏈) for different products combined or separated arrangement.  


After that Prof. Cai Wen gave a summary that everything could be combined, separated and expandable to solve contradiction problems.  The Increase and Decrease are two of basic transformation (基本變換) where Increase is special case of combination and Decrease prerequisite is separation.


Prof. Cai Wen then explained the principle of Conjugate Analysis (共軛分析原理) and using it to analyze resource. 
There are four pairs of conjugate resource and showed as follows:
i)                    Physical: Sources of Nonmaterial Part (虛資源) and Material Part (實資源)
ii)                  Systematic: Soft Part (軟資源) and Hard Part(硬資源)
iii)                Latent Part (潛資源) and Apparent Part (顯資源)
iv)                Negative Part (負資源) and Positive Part (正資源)


And he demonstrated some conjugate resource on Nonmaterial Resource (虛資源) and Soft Resource (軟資源). One example was three monks no water to drink because of bad relationship.  He changed the internal relationship through introduced senior monk into the group to solve the problem.


Prof. Yang Chunyan (楊春燕) was responsible for the afternoon session.  Firstly, she reminded us the Extension Innovation Four Step method (可拓創新四步法).


We had learnt the method from Model (建模) to Extension (拓展) to Transformation (變換) and then to Selection (選擇) in level 2 course.


Then Prof. Yang mentioned the Superiority Evaluation Method (優度評價方法) and explained the selection of measuring indicators that should be considered their purpose, holistic, practicable and stability.  Moreover, the indicator types included technical, economic, social related and must-fulfill indicator.  


After that Dr. Tang Long (湯龍) explained the Dependent Functions (關聯函數) to us.


Dependent Functions (關聯函數) included simple dependent function and elementary dependent function.  The following diagram showed the simple dependent function and its equations.


Positive field is finite interval X = <a, b> and max value point is M.

The results of dependent function in each field were demonstrated.


Another type of dependent function named Discrete Dependent Function, which was not quantitative but qualitative in nature, was introduced.  


At the end of Day 1, Prof. Yang Chunyan (楊春燕) explained the reason to employ dependent function for selection in the Extension Innovation Four Step method.


Day 2 (13 May 2017) (Saturday)
Prof. Cai Wen (蔡文) explained the First Creative Method (第一創造法), the Second Creative Method (第二創造法) and the Third Creative Method (第三創造法).  Prof. Cai named them using 4 Chinese Words and they were [無中生有], [有中求變] and [改缺成優].  The last term was created by me and published in the am730 on 12 May 2017.  However, Prof. Cai’s the second term was much better than my article.  We would use three terms in the Creative Method as standard terms. (產品創新)


Since the First Creative Method is started from user need, we employed the Conjugate Analysis on their needs.  It identified the conjugation needs included Nonmaterial Need (虛需要), Material Need (實需要), Soft Need (軟需要), Hard Need (硬需要), Latent Need (潛需要) , Apparent Need (顯需要), Negative Need (負需要) and Positive Need (正需要).


Minda and I also did the exercise to use the First Creative Method to create new product to solve the contradiction problem.


Then Prof. Cai Wen explained the basic steps of the First Creative Method.


In afternoon, Prof. Yang Chunyan (楊春燕) explained the Third Creative Method (第三創造法) which started from the defect of the existing product.  We would like to improve the defect and solve the problem.  


Ms. Chow did the exercise and they selected the smart phone.  Firstly, she needed to list all defects and analyzed their characteristic type to related to Function (Affair-element), Structure (Relation-element) and Hardware (Matter-element).  


Then Prof. Yang Chunyan explained the basic steps of the Third Creative Method (第三創造法).  She said three creative methods were similar and the only different was the start point.  After that all methods would be employed the Extension Innovation Four Step method (可拓創新四步法). 


After that she told us that they developed the software based on the Third Creative Method named ITCM.  


The software had registered patent in China.  After further modification, it could be posted into website for application.


In that night, we had dinner together.  Everybody shared their feeling after the course.


Day 3 (14 May 2017) (Sunday)
In the beginning, we continued our yesterday exercise for the First and Third Creative Method.  Our team selected the small digital camera. 


Prof. Yang Chunyan (楊春燕) briefed the steps for the First Creative Method below:
i)                    What is consumer’s need?
ii)                  What is the function (affair-element) of the target product?
iii)                What is the Feature Characteristic-element (性質特徵元)?
iv)                What the Practical Characteristic-element (實義特徵元) should have?
v)                  Write down the target product’s Hard Part and Soft Part in Relation-element.
vi)                Extend the Hard Part and Soft Part
vii)              Transformation
viii)            Creative ideas generated
ix)                Evaluation
x)                  Superior target product creative idea


Minda represented our team to present our solution using the First Creative Method.  The target product could protect our digital camera searching photos easily. 


Mr. Cheung (張朝峰) presented the new cup which could identify who used that cup and avoiding confusion.


Mr. 曲家彬 presented the non-slip surface mobile cover design.


Dr. Yeung (楊小輝) presented the target product to avoid child to play mobile or computer for long time so as to avoid neck problem. 


In afternoon, we shared our results and discussed together.  We continued our exercise for using the Third Creative Method.  Some photos for our discussion were shared below.




Then I presented our improvement of existing small digital camera using transformation of Matter-element, Affair-element and Relation-element.  Moreover, we also consider their correlative (相關網) and Implication (蘊含系), and then identified their Conductive Effect (傳導效應).  After the superiority evaluation, we selected the highest result of dependence function as our target product.


Mr. 曲家彬 demonstrated their design to protect mobile with water.


Finally, Prof. Cai Wen summarized three days training.


He introduced the scientific technology development and explained China situation in the past and now.  We had developed the theory and methodology and the remaining was developed the technology and application, as well as, promotion.  After 30 year development of China, it is time to develop our original research.


Prof. Cai Wen expected to develop the Extenics together and made it internationalization.


Then Prof. Xingsen Li (李興森) gave a closing remark and he would come to Guangzhou working with us soon.
