The 1st
Meeting of the Extenics Internationalization 2017 (第一屆可拓學國際化會議) was organized by Research
Institute of Extenics and Innovation Methods, GDUT (廣東工業大學可拓學與創新方法研究所) from 4 to 5 Jan 2017. The two days meeting aimed to discuss how to
promote the Extenics from Hong Kong to International. We invited Prof. Lorna Uden (羅娜·尤登) (Staffordshire University, UK),
Dr. KS Chin (錢桂生) (City University of Hong Kong), Mr. Victor Chiu (趙仲凱) (Academic Director, Baby First)
and Ms. Hemans Leung (梁佩英) (Operations Director, Baby First), as well as Prof. Cai Wen (蔡文) and Prof. Yang Chunyan (楊春燕) (where I represented Hong Kong
Science and Technology Park). We took a
photo in front of the Guangdong
University of Technology (廣東工業大學).
We met in the meeting room and started to discuss this topic.
In the beginning,
Prof. Yang Chunyan (楊春燕) gave a welcome speech and introduced Prof. Cai Wen’s achievement since
the first paper had been published in 1983.
Then the Research Institute of Extenics and Innovation Methods, GDUT established
in 1986 (former named 物元分析研究所). After that we had a big team
to research on the Extenics through Extenics Society, Chinese Association for Artificial
Intelligence (中國人工智能學會可拓學專業委員會). Now we needed to promote to international
communities so as to let foreign people to learn Chinese original theory.
Prof.
Cai Wen (蔡文) was the
first speaker and he introduced the recently Entenics Internationalization and Socialization. Firstly, Prof. Cai introduced some visiting
scholars, they come from India, Romania, USA, to study Extenics in GDUT. The Professor from USA published Prof. Cai
Wen’s book in English named “Extenics: Theory, Method and Application” in USA
in 2013.
One of
great achievements was the research with Prof. Luigi Vladareanu for robotic
that won Gold Medal in the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva, (the
largest of its kind in the world) in 2014!
For
socialization, Chinese scholars performed seminars and trainings in different provinces
from 2014 to 2016. The training course included
in-house for industry in Zhongshan (中山) and Hong Kong. Moreover, the Extenics Innovation Method
introduced to many primary and secondary schools in China.
After
that Prof. Cai Wen briefed the achievement in Extenics included Robotic
application, shoes product innovation design, machine design, extenics strategy
generation system, Extenics Innovation Four Steps application for new product
development, and many media reporting.
The second
speaker was Prof. Lorna Uden (羅娜·尤登) (Staffordshire University, UK) and she shared her research
interests. She mainly taught Innovation
and made people more creative and smart.
Her research related to Big Data.
Prof. Uden would like to make learning exciting and interest for student
so as to teach student “How to think, How to learn and How to smart!”
I was
the third speaker and my topic was “Extenics Promotion Planning & Strategy”.
Firstly, I reviewed the activities about Extenics that I attended in China and
arranged in Hong Kong in 2016. I
achieved the Extenics Level 1 certificate and received the Outstanding
Contribution on Promoting Extenics Award (I am one of seven awardees).
Then I
analyzed the difficulty levels among “Basic-element theory”, “Extension set
theory” and “Extension logic”. The first
two items could be included in seminar and training but the last item should be
in university research such as AI and Robotic.
Finally,
I proposed to use Hong Kong Society for Quality as a bridge to link with
Chinese Alliance (WACQ) and then through ANQ for Asia, finally, promoting to
ASQ partners for the Worldwide.
Dr. KS
Chin (CityU) was the fourth speaker and his topic named “Implementation of
Innovation: Realizing Extenics”. Dr.
Chin said “Innovation is a Global Trend”.
However, the success rate was factually 2% or less. So it was a high risk
activity!
Then Dr.
Chin said that Extenics is a proven vehicle to generate innovative ideas. Innovation management / system were the
constant search for a fresh or novel approach to every aspect of running the
business. However, a new knowledge
required a successful organization of efforts, an effective process and a
perfect management system; so as to realize Extenics.
Therefore,
Dr. KS Chin proposed an organizational-wide OIM implementation framework
(Organization Innovation Management – OIM) as example and quoted my case study named
“Integration of Quality and Innovation Management”. Finally, Dr. Chin concluded to employ
Organization-wide Implementation and Sustainability would be realizing Extenics.
Mr.
Victor Chiu (趙仲凱) (Academic Director, Baby First) and Ms. Hemans Leung (梁佩英) (Operations Director, Baby
First) were the fifth and sixth speakers.
Firstly, Mr. Victor Chiu introduced their business which was mainly
focused on family education and child care education (幼兒/少兒).
He faced
a problem about how to be creative for a long time. He thought that Innovation, Creativity and
Imagination should be connected.
Then Mr.
Victor Chiu briefed the Wisdom Model which started from “Perception” to “Logic”
and then to “Creativity”. How to achieve
it? He found that the Extenics gave him
the solution!
After
that he used Chinese Dragon as example to demonstrate the creativity through
imagination.
Finally,
Ms. Hemans Leung briefed the first in-house Extenics Innovation Four Step
Method workshop performed by Prof. Cai Wen in Baby First in Hong Kong. Moreover, a short video recorded Prof. Cai’s

Hemans Leung proposed to develop a Child Care Education material, general book
publication, arrangement of training course and members exchanging
activities.

(Extension, Severe, Modest & Integrity).

the next session, Dr. Chin and I took a photo in front of the Research Institute of Extenics and
Innovation Methods, GDUT (廣東工業大學可拓學與創新方法研究所) and Extenics Society, Chinese Association for Artificial
Intelligence (中國人工智能學會可拓學專業委員會).
I
visited Prof. Cai Wen’s office (Research Institute of Extenics and Innovation
Methods - Honorary Director office).
I also
visited Prof. Yang Chunyan’s office (Research Institute of Extenics and
Innovation Methods - Director office).
In the
show room, many publications, IP, awards, theses as well as publications were
demonstrated. The oldest publication was
the book in the top right one.
After
that we discussed the following plan as follows:
i)
For general promotion, Mr. Victor Chiu proposed to public a book which
related Extenics concept for Children in Hong Kong and announced during Book
Exhibition in July 2017.
ii)
Ms. Hemans Leung suggested to arrange an announcement event for alliance
and invited different industries partners together on 1 April 2017
(temporary) and they could find some media for help.
iii)
We draft some themes such as “Quality Innovation˙Education” / “Extenics Innovation
– Quality and Education” / “Quality Innovation – Extenics and Education”, etc.
It needed to discuss with industrial expert again (said consult Dr. Aaron
Tong).
iv)
Prof. Cai Wen suggested to arrange the Four-Region Free Trade Area
across the Straights (兩岸四地) seminar included China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and temporarily
held from 23-25 Jun 2017. Dr. KS Chin
said it could be arranged a study mission.
v)
Lotto would give a talk to 5 universities in Hong Kong and the first two
of them (CityU and PolyU) were confirmed in Feb and Mar 2017 for promoting
Extenics Innovation Method. Moreover, he
would like to contact Academy of Science of Hong Kong and HKPC.
vi)
Dr. KS Chin agreed to provide venue for the announcement activities /
seminar in CityU on 1 April 2017 and he was responsible for research
cooperation information such as ITF/UGC/SME funding website and research
student exchange plan.
Finally,
we took a group photo in front of the Research Institute of Extenics and Innovation Methods, GDUT.
In the
last half day, we visited Guangzhou old city and gardens.

garden. It is a very good control
mechanism!
