IVE Open Day Seminar on Testing and Certification Industry in Hong Kong

I was honor to be one of guest speakers for IVE Open Day Seminar on Testing and Certification Industry in Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin) on 2nd December 2011. Dr. Eric Sze (Senior Accreditation Officer, HKAS) was the second guest speaker in this session. We took a photo before the seminar.

My presentation topic named "Quality as a Service: Testing and Certification in Hong Kong." The content included Quality as a Service (QaaS) concept, quality movement in Hong Kong, introduction the background of Testing and Certification (T&C) Industry, T&C report and its suggestions, as well as, Quality Service survey in HKSTPC's laboratories.

Then I briefed the history of quality movement in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS) was established in 1985. Then, Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) was formed in 1986. Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks has built since 2001. After that Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) has established since 2009.

After briefing the T&C industry background, I mentioned the roles of HKSQ and HKSTP in testing and certification based on T&C report. I also introduced the laboratories in HKSTP which achieved HOKLAS accreditation.

Dr. Eric Sze was the second speaker and his topic was "The perspective of Testing and Certification Industry". Dr. Sze explained Testing and Certification Industry which were separated into three included Testing, Inspection and Certification. Then he briefed HKAS and the situation of T&C Industry. At the end, the professional qualification of T&C were discussed.

Dr. Sze introduced the first party, second party and third party in testing activities.

Some tests in toy were briefed and some real cases were shared. He also briefed several type of safety testings.

Mr. Yeung Kwok Cheung (Senior Lecturer, Department of Applied Science, HKIVE(Sha Tin)) presented a souvenir to me.
