Visit to Huawei, IGRS and Tsinghua University in Shenzhen (華為, 閃聯, 清華一天考察團)

The visit to Huawei, IGRS and Tsinghua University in Shenzhen (華為, 閃聯, 清華一天考察團) was organized by Hong Kong Electronics & Technologies Association (HKETA) and supported by Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ), America Society for Quality (ASQ),TQM Consultant Co., Ltd. and ITQM Company Limited on 17 December 2010.

We gathered in HKPC at 7:45am and started at 8:00am. Ms. Christine Choy (Director and Chief Consultant of Choy’s Human Resource Consultancy Ltd.) introduced the arrangement of the visit and then Dr. Aaron Tong (Managing Director of TQM Consultant Co., Ltd.) briefed the background of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. which was China's largest manufacturer of telecommunications equipment. Moreover, more than 300 engineers achieved ASQ Certified Quality Engineer qualification. Nevertheless, they adopted the wolf culture.



Ir. Peter Yeung, Mr. TM. Lau and I represented HKSTP to join this visit. The lady was Ms. Phoebe Fan (Consulting Director, Ardent Sage Consulting Ltd.)

We arrived Huewai building. Since we signed the confidential agreement, no photos which were taken inside could be shared. However, we are honor to have a meeting with Mr. Davis Yang (Chief Quality Officer – CQO, GIIC Commissioner).

After lunch, we went to IGRS, which stands for Intelligent Grouping and Resource Sharing working group. During the travel, Mr. Robert Li (Chairman of HKETA and E-trade360.com Ltd.) introduced the IGRS to us.



Then Mr. Simon Cheung (Chairman, Mei Lun Group Limited) shared some experience (especially MyCar) to us.


IGRS located in Shenzhen Software Park.




IGRS was National Engineering Laboratory.



Firstly, we visit the show room and saw the IGRS committee chart.


Then Dr. Sun Yuning (President of National Engineering Laboratory for IGRS and Chair of IGRS Working Group) and Mr. Tim Zhan (VP of IGRS Engineering Lab Ltd.) led us to visit the show room.


Then they showed the remote housewares through the common platform using IGRS standards.


The control panel was showed in TV screen.

Many famous companies are the member of IGRS.


The staff showed the remote control through mobile phone in the control room.


Some projects were introduced. It included electric car and green energy.



We exchanged name card in the meeting room.


After that Dr. Sun and Mr. Zhan presented the mission of IGRS Engineering Ltd. IGRS was formally established on July 17, 2003 by five of the biggest computer and CE companies in China, Lenovo, TCL, Konka, Hisense and Great Wall. Lenovo acts as the chair company of the working group.



IGRS Engineering Lab Ltd. was the leading unit in this alliance.


There were 148 company members which covered most China 3C markets. Moreover, the operation concept of standard was open source.

The last visit location was Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen.

The Mr. Zeng Ren Wei introduced the Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen. It aimed to equip business leader to enhance their business.


Ms. Ye Lizhen briefed the training courses such as President Seminar of Business Administration and Innovation Leadership and EMBA.


The course background philosophy was stated.


Performance-oriented Executive Development Program (P-EDP) (以業績為導向的管理能力提升計劃) was also introduced.


The foundation theory of the course was mentioned.


The participants were come form different famous companies.


Group photo was taken.


During departure, all participants shared their business.
Ir. Peter Yeung introduced the service of Technology Support Centre (TSC) of HKSTP.


Then I shared the quality system in TSC of HKSTP included ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 17025 and ISO 27001. The information security management system ISO 27001 (especially Secure Virtual IP Chamber) was briefed which scope included IC Design Centre and IP Servicing Centre. Moreover, I introduced that HKSQ will be 25th anniversary in next year and will arrange ANQ Congress (co-hosted by CAQ and HKSQ) in 2012.


Ir. William Wong (Director, U.R. RFID Limited), who was HKSQ senior member, shared his business about RFID application.


Mr. Yan S.Y. Fung (Infrastructure Specialist of CybTech Company) was the expert on problem solving in both hardware and software.


Mr. Mark Lam (Director, Intech LCD Group Ltd) shared LCD business.


Mr. Robert Li (Chairman, HKETA) shared his business experience in China opening policy for 30 years.
