Extenics Webinar: ChatGPT Technology Innovation and Breakthrough

The webinar named “ChatGPT Technology Innovation and Breakthrough” was organized by CAAI Extenics Society on 26^th Feb 2023. Most of committee members in Extenics Society participated.

The first speaker was Prof. Xingsen Li (李兴森) and he briefed the background of ChatGPT webinar that initiated by Extenics Society Exco committee.

Prof. Li tried ChatGPT in Chinese for Extenics but the answer is not accuracy.

He also tried in English that seems much better. During discussion, Prof. Ho expressed to concern the national security for ChatGPT. I also commented that ChatGPT could assist Extenics database for extension analysis.

The first speaker was Prof. Qin Jianjun (秦建軍) and his topic named “ChatGPT inspiration on scientific thinking and extenics research”. In the beginning, Prof. Qin briefed ChatGPT background and challenges, as well as, NPL background.

Then he briefed the AI and Scientific Thinking in the following table.

Finally, Prof. Qin mentioned the implication to Extenics especially in Transformation and Analysis steps for extension analysis, conjugate analysis and data enhancement. 

The second speaker was Mr. Li Wenguang (李文廣) and his topic was “DIY ChatGPT”. He suggested to us ChatGPD for intelligence assistant so as to enhance productivity. 

Then Mr. Li demonstrated his AR/VR model combined with ChatGPT.    

Finally, he briefed his idea on application of ChatGPT into Extenics.

The third speaker was Prof. Zhang Lingling (張玲) and she introduced the first China’s Innovation Challenge on AI Application Scene (CICAS 2023). 

And then she invited all experts to support the 40^th anniversary of Extenics and submit academic papers.

The last speaker was Prof. Liu Wei (劉偉) and his topic named “Human-Machine-Environment System Intelligent” He said two intelligent enablers and they are programming and database. And the limitation of ChatGPT is also the limitation of AI. 

Then Prof. Liu pointed out the explainable, human learning and common sense descriptions. After that he stated the “Human-Machine-Environment” background that could be traced from Dr. Chin in the China.

Finally, Prof. Liu discussed the State (態), Trend (勢), Sense (感) and Perception (知) that Situation = State + Trend and Awareness = Sense + Perception. The definition of Situation Awareness is “… the perception of the elements in the environment within a volume of time and space, the comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their status in the near future.”

The 8th meeting of HKCTC Panel on Manpower Development

I was honor to be invited by HKCTC as a member of the panel on manpower development in 2023. The 8th meeting of HKCTC Panel on Manpower Development was held on 24^th Feb 2023. We took a group photo for memory.

HKSQ Technical Visit to Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC)

HKSQ organized a technical visit to Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) on 17 Feb 2023 and CityU EngD Society is supporting organization. Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) is another organizer for this event. HKSTP pioneers the state-of-theart Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) at Tseung Kwan O INNOPARK, providing a gross floor area of about 108,580m². The AMC equips companies of different scales with scalable, efficient, and dedicated logistics serviced manufacturing space, and assists them in embarking on technological innovation, high value-added and low volume but highly customized production with the application of advanced manufacturing and testing processes. 

Before the event started, we met many HKSQ members and took some photos for memory.

I also met EngD cohort Dr. Gaby Kun and Ms. Kelly Liu (Dr. TW Liu’s Daughter).

Another EngD cohort Dr. Brian Lo joined the event.

We also took a photo with Dr. HL Yiu.

He is responsible person for AMC and introduced INNOPARKS background in the beginning.

The overall INNOPARKS components and key buildings were briefed.

The evolution of Industry Estates from IE1.0 to INOPARK through I&T driven, critical process and traditional pillars to support suitable industries in Hong Kong.

And then he introduced the infrastructure of AMC.

PROSHOP is aimed to demonstrate smart manufacturing technologies and accelerate the commercialization of startup in Hong Kong such as quick developing prototype of new electronic product.

After introduction briefed, we took a photo with Dr. HL Yiu. The first organization is HKGCC. Dr. Stephen Ng (Left 5^th) is also our senior HKSQ member long time ago and serviced in PolyU for many years.

After the introduction session, we visited the AMC building. Firstly, Ms. Sheron Sit mentioned the background.

And then we visited the PROSHOP venue and the infrastructure was almost finished and waiting for tenant to move-in and operation.

Another empty plant for rental was also visited. The floor is very high and suitable for specific need manufacturing process.

Automatic warehouse was demonstrated.

The automatic carrier moved the goods to the warehouse.

The goods moved to another warehouse for packing and deliver through conveyer.

The inspection and packing were demonstrated.

The lifting arm was observed and the loading is up to 30.5 tons!

At the end, we all come back to the hall. Ms. Guido Leenknegt introduced their Innovation solution from HKPC.

They formed Hong Kong Industrial Artifical Intelligence and Robotics Centre (FLAIR) through AIR@InnoHK funding by INC and HKPC.

At the end, many thanks to Dr. Gaby Kun drove me to CityU and I had a lecture tonight and I also performed HKSQ membership drive briefing.

Innovation China – The 2nd Forum in HK (科創中國-第二屆香港論壇)

 Innovation China Forum was held by Doctors Think Tank Academy from 13^th to 15^th Feb 2023 and the theme is “科技引領香港社會經濟持續發展”. Dr. Ray Kong (Vice President, CityU EngD Society) was one of guests in Forum 2 and discussed the topic named “人工智能技術發展及背後意義人工智能技術發展及背後意義”.

Dr. Ray Kong took a photo in front the banner for memory.

Then he presented the topic about intelligent automation in China manufacturing practice.

Forum representative presented souvenir to Dr. Kong.

At the end, Dr. Kong received media interview.

Lunar New Year Luncheon by HKCTC Chairman

 I was honor to be invited by HKCTC as a member of the panel on manpower development under HKCTC in 2023. We all are invited by Prof. Wong Wing-tak, (HKCTC Council Chairman) for spring reception in the form of a luncheon on 9^th Feb 2023. I met many TIC friends and took a photo with Mr. Shum, Dr. George Lau and Mr. KW Chen before the lunch.

In the beginning, Ms. Rebecca Pun (Commissioner for innovation and technology) gave welcome speech and introduced Testing and Certification Manpower Development Award Scheme. She encouraged industry to join this scheme.

I met Mr. Robert Lui (CityU Eminence Society Exco member) and Dr Fanny TANG (HKMU) in table 2.

Then Prof. Wong gave a speech and thanks all members contribution on HKCTC. 

After that Prof. Wong and government representatives gave us a cheer.

At the end, Prof. Wong presented souvenir to Dr. Tommy Lo and Prof. Joseph YW Mak for their contribution in the council.
