Extension Innovation Method Trainer Course Level 3 - Part 2

The Extension Innovation Method training course for Trainer Level 3 – Part 2 (可拓創新培訓師培訓班三級第二節) was organized by Extenics Company (可拓學公司) in Guangzhou from 26 to 28 May 2017.  Before the training course, I attended the examination of Extension Innovation Method Level 2 on 25 May 2017 afternoon.  The examination style was panel discussion to test your knowledge based on your submitted examination paper.  We all needed to explain the question using Extenics knowledge.

I was the last one to reply professors’ questions and explaining the extension analysis on my topic “Stick” using divergence tree (基元發散樹).

Then I also explained its Correlative (相關網) and Implication (蘊含系), as well as, their Conductive Effect (傳導效應).

Day 1 (26 May 2017) (Friday)
Before the Day 1 Level 3 Part 2 training, Mr. Yin Hanfan (鄞漢藩) (Secretary-General, Shenzhen Intellectual Property Society) gave Minda a set of child books and his paper named “Feature Analysis and Application of the Four-step Extenics Innovation Method in Patent Law Protection of the Inventions” which published in Journal of Guangdong University of Technology.

In the beginning, Prof. Yang Chunyan (楊春燕) gave opening remark and she said in the internet and big data era, contradiction problem is anywhere.  The innovation aimed to solute contradiction problem.  In order to enhance people’s innovation capability and quality, study of contradiction problem was critical.

Then Prof. Yang introduced different types of contradictory problems.  Problem is that our requirement /target cannot be fulfilled under certain condition.
Contradictory problems are divided into three cases below:
(i)                 The problems with subjective and objective contradictions, or named “incompatible problems” (不相容問題);
(ii)               The problems with subjective and objective contradictions, or named “antithetical problems” (對立問題);
(iii)             The problems with objective contradictions that naturally exist without human intervention (自然客觀矛盾問題).

Then I tried to define the problem using Basic-element to present it.

Prof. Yang added that Condition (L) included Resource condition and Environment condition that we needed to define clearly.  Moreover, condition could be created or changed.  The model of contradiction problem is P = G * L, where P = Problem, G = Goal and L = Limit or Condition (using L because C used for characteristic in basic-element).

In afternoon session, Dr. Tang Long (湯龍) introduced the solving methods of incompatible problem.  After defined the problem as incompatible problem (不相容問題), P = G L, there are three ways to solve it as follow:
(i)                 Goal unchanged but Condition changed
(ii)               Condition unchanged but Goal changed
(iii)             Both Goal and Condition changed

Dr. Tang Long said we needed to establish the Dependent Functions (關聯函數) first, either Condition changed or Goal changed, for problem justification.  After that we needed to perform Correlative analysis (相關分析) and Implication analysis (蘊含分析).

Then Dr. Long briefed the steps of the solving the incompatible problem as the following diagram. It is similar to Four Steps of Extension Innovation Method but added two justification points. That is from Model (建模) plus Justification (判斷) to Extension (拓展) to Transformation (變換) plus Re-justification (再判斷) and then to Selection (選擇/評價).

After Day 1 course, Mr. Yin Hanfan (鄞漢藩) invited all classmates to have dinner together.

Day 2 (27 May 2017) (Saturday)
Prof. Cai Wen (蔡文) explained the Antithetical problems (對立問題), P = (g1˄ g2) * L, and its solving method.  Antithetical problem is two or more goals cannot achieve at the same time under a certain condition.  His classical example was cars from Hong Kong to Shenzhen or reverse using Cross Border Bridge (named Transforming Bridge Method 轉換橋).

Minda and I joined the discussion and done some exercises.

Then Prof. Cai Wen showed the model of Hong Kong and Shenzhen Road and demonstrated how to use the Open-up (分合鏈) analysis to lead the transformation.  To solve this kind of problem, it could be separated first and then combined again.  The connection part could be presented as V // {V1, V2}.

After that Prof. Cai Wen briefed the steps of Transforming Bridge Method (轉換橋) which is similar to solve the incompatible problem from Model (建模) plus Justification (判斷) to Extension (拓展) to Transformation (變換) plus Re-justification (再判斷) and then to Selection (選擇/評價).  But it was observed that decomposition and integration were frequency use in the Transforming Bridge Method to solve the antithetical problems.

Prof. Cai Wen also added that the condition separation was the fundamental of Transforming Bridge Method.   Usually, the condition separations were in time, space and other parameters.

Finally, Prof. Cai Wen summarized these two days study included Contradiction Problem, Three ways to solve such problem and Extension Strategic Generation Method as well as Transforming Bridge Method.

At the end, Prof. Yang Chunyan used an example to explain how extension innovation method to create many different solutions.

Prof. Cai Wen invited all classmate to have dinner together and he said a big change after three years.  We committed to meet again after 3 years.

Day 3 (28 May 2017) (Sunday)
In the beginning, Prof. Yang Chunyan asked us to continue our yesterday exercise for incompatible problems (不相容問題) and antithetical problems (對立問題).  Mr. Wong (黃超生) (GM, Extenics Company) was the first speaker to present his case.  He used taxi service as example and generated some existing innovation business model such as滴滴打车, 專車.

I was the second speaker to present my case for incompatible problems

Ms. Chow (周彥) was the third team to present their problem.

Dr. Yang (楊小輝) team was next.

After that Prof. Cai Wen and Prof. Yang Chunyan commented our exercise and took a photo for memory.

During lunch time, we met Prof. Cai’s wife and we took a photo for memory.

In afternoon, we continued our exercise.  Mr. Cheung (張朝峰) discussed his idea with Prof. Yang.

I presented my product idea to solve my antithetical problems (對立問題).  Prof. Yang gave some comments on it.

Finally, Prof. Yang presented the examination results.

Ms. Lee (李劍明) got the Certificate of Extension Innovation Method Level 1.

Mr. Cheung (張磊) got the Certificate of Extension Innovation Method Level 1.

Mr. Wong (黃超生) achieved the Certificate of Extension Innovation Method Level 2.

I also achieved the Certificate of Extension Innovation Method Level 2.

And Dr. Yang (楊小輝) achieved the Certificate of Extension Innovation Method Level 2 too.

At the end, Prof. Cai Wen gave a closing speech.  He reviewed how we learnt through this course. And he explained the different between Mathematics and Extenics.  Mathematics is the study of topics included quantity (numbers), structure, space, and change using mathematics symbol/language.  Extenics is the study of contradiction problems using basic-element.  After that he was planning to form different professional team for promoting Extenics.  Lastly, he expected we could be together again after 3 years.
